Overview

Sandvik Mining - Systems Technician - Automation and Newtrax. Based in Orange, NSW or Milton, Brisbane. The role delivers technical support, commissioning, maintenance, and repair services for Sandvik AutoMine and Newtrax automation, productivity, and collision avoidance systems across an established customer base. You will install, commission, diagnose, and optimise automation systems at customer sites and in Sandvik workshops, contributing to safe, reliable, and efficient mining equipment operation.

Responsibilities
  • Install, commission, maintain, and repair Sandvik AutoMine and Newtrax automation, productivity, and collision avoidance systems at customer sites and in Sandvik workshops, from installation through to stable operation.
  • Provide high-level technical support to customers, operators, and service personnel by diagnosing and resolving complex system and equipment issues in field environments.
  • Perform inspections, planned maintenance, and repairs on specialised mining equipment (e.g., drill rigs, loaders, trucks) to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
  • Conduct systematic fault finding and failure analysis to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurring issues.
  • Support field trials, testing, and commissioning of new products, system upgrades, and updated components in collaboration with internal technical teams.
  • Engage with customers as a trusted technical advisor, ensuring clear communication, effective issue resolution, and strong ongoing system performance.
  • Collaborate with Automation, Engineering, and Service teams to share technical insights, support continuous improvement, and enhance product and service delivery.
  • Maintain strong technical knowledge of automation systems, networking, communication protocols, and applications to support informed troubleshooting and solution delivery.
  • Complete required reporting and documentation related to service activities, system performance, and compliance, while aligning with safety, quality, and ethical standards.
About you
  • You are technically skilled and safety-focused, with experience supporting electrical, mechanical, or automation systems in mining or heavy industrial environments.
  • You understand equipment operation, system integration, and maintenance practices; capable of diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues independently or with others.
  • You build trusted relationships with customers and internal stakeholders through clear communication and a solutions-focused approach.
  • You are confident engaging with operators, supervisors, and technical teams and remain calm in high-pressure site environments.
  • You are proactive, well-organised, and capable of managing workload in a dynamic field-based role; digitally capable with IT systems, technical documentation, and remote support tools.
  • Experience with automation systems, networking, and underground mining environments is highly regarded.
