Job Description

The Staff Product Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Austin, Texas. This position provides hands-on technical leadership to Manufacturing Operations during the planning, introduction, integration, and production of complex test and measurement systems. Serving as the primary link between product design teams and manufacturing, the engineer ensures that configurable, multidisciplinary systems can be assembled, configured, tested, verified, and delivered safely, reliably, and on schedule in a highly dynamic environment.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
  • Serve as the product engineering owner for assigned test-system platforms from new product introduction through sustaining production.
  • Provide hands-on technical support during system assembly, integration, software and firmware configuration, calibration, test, verification, and production release.
  • Partner with design teams to define requirements, develop validation plans, and improve manufacturability, testability, quality, reliability, and serviceability.
  • Assess manufacturing readiness by reviewing drawings, bills of material, work instructions, software configurations, test procedures, tooling, material availability, and configuration-control requirements.
  • Lead the resolution of production constraints involving design ambiguities, component shortages, substitutions, test failures, workmanship issues, and hardware, software, firmware, mechanical, or system-level interfaces.
  • Own technical issues from initial identification through containment, structured root-cause analysis, corrective action, recurrence prevention, and effectiveness verification.
  • Balance planned engineering work with urgent manufacturing escalations, reprioritizing based on production schedules, material constraints, technical risk, and customer commitments.
  • Support prototype and pilot builds, design-for-manufacturability and design-for-test reviews, process validation, production documentation, training, release readiness, and transition to sustaining production.
  • Use production data to identify and lead improvements in first-pass yield, system test success, build cycle time, defects, rework, schedule attainment, material readiness, cost, and productivity.
  • Drive continuous improvement through Lean methods, mistake-proofing, workflow automation, analytics, and engineering productivity tools.
  • Communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, ownership, status, and recovery plans clearly to manufacturing personnel, global engineering teams, cross-functional partners, and leadership.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation, product knowledge, configuration rules, known failure modes, lessons learned, and standard work.
For This Role, You Will Need:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, computer, systems, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Two or more years of relevant experience in product, systems, manufacturing, test, or new product introduction engineering.
  • Experience troubleshooting multidisciplinary electromechanical systems that may include electronic instrumentation, industrial computers, embedded controllers, software, firmware, cable assemblies, custom interfaces, mechanical enclosures, racks, fixtures, and thermal components.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, bills of material, technical specifications, test requirements, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience leading structured root-cause analysis, corrective action, and recurrence-prevention activities.
  • Strong project coordination, analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, make sound technical decisions with incomplete information, and work independently in a fast-changing production environment.
  • Fluent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to work on-site five days per week in manufacturing and office environments.
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
  • Experience with automated test and measurement systems and configurable, low-volume/high-mix manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with NI or Emerson hardware and software platforms.
  • Knowledge of design validation, quality and reliability engineering, configuration control, and engineering change processes.
  • Experience with AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar quality-management systems.
  • Experience applying Lean, Kaizen, mistake-proofing, or Design for Manufacturability principles.
  • Experience using Power BI, Power Automate, LabVIEW, Python, SQL, or similar analytics and automation tools to improve manufacturing performance.
  • Experience supporting global manufacturing and engineering teams.
