Job Description

About the Role

This Finance Engineer role sits at the intersection of finance operations and technology, reporting directly to the Director of Finance & People at a Series B EdTech company. You'll act as a strategic force multiplier — both running core financial processes and building the automated, data-driven infrastructure that will power the company's next stage of growth.

What You'll Do

  • Own key financial processes including monthly, quarterly, and annual close, and coordinate with external auditors.

  • Drive operational controlling: budget planning, financial forecasting, and liquidity management.

  • Prepare decision briefs and lead cross-functional finance initiatives alongside senior leadership.

  • Build and deliver monthly financial reporting with data-driven analysis to support growth and investment decisions.

  • Identify and implement finance workflow automation using AI tools, low-code platforms, and smart integrations.

  • Support financial modeling for growth and innovation projects, acting as a sparring partner to the management team.

  • Manage relationships with external tax, audit, and legal advisors across multiple jurisdictions.

  • Help build the company's digital finance backbone, including intelligent dashboards, predictive KPIs, and scalable ERP/treasury architecture.

  • Serve as the connective tissue between Finance & People and functions such as Growth and Engineering.

What We're Looking For

  • 1–3 years of finance experience, ideally from a Big 4 advisory firm or a high-growth startup environment.

  • Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field from a strong academic background.

  • Solid grounding in German accounting standards (HGB) and familiarity with IFRS.

  • Strong FP&A skills: budgeting, forecasting, controlling, and liquidity management.

  • Advanced Excel proficiency and comfort using AI tools to enhance and automate daily workflows.

  • Familiarity with BI tools or low-code platforms is a plus.

  • Fluent in both German and English (written and spoken).

  • Proactive, self-driven, and energised by building from scratch in a fast-paced startup environment.

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: €50,000 – €60,000 per year. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
