Bank Ward Nurse / Registered Nurse
Location: York LS23
Contract Type: Bank / zero-hour contract
We are recruiting for a Bank Ward Nurse / Registered Nurse in the Wetherby area, paying £21- £30 per hour depending on the experince. The role requires flexibility to cover shifts across York LS23. This would suit an NMC-registered nurse with ward, theatre, outpatient, general surgery or ophthalmology experience who is looking for flexible bank work within specialist eye care.

You will work as part of a skilled multi-disciplinary team, supporting patients throughout their ophthalmic surgical pathway.
Job Purpose
As part of the clinical team, you will provide safe, high-quality care to patients before, during and after ophthalmic procedures. The role will include supporting the surgical and refractive pathway, providing peri-operative and post-operative care, and assisting the wider clinical team to ensure a smooth and positive patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
Support patients throughout their ophthalmic care pathway
Provide pre-operative, peri-operative and post-operative care
Assist with surgical lists, theatre flow and ward-based patient care
Provide clear instructions and reassurance to patients and carers
Administer medication and treatments in line with NMC standards and local policies
Use clinical judgement to identify concerns requiring consultant or surgeon input
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records
Support infection prevention, clinical governance and patient safety standards
Work closely with consultants, theatre teams, nurses and wider clinical colleagues
Help maintain a calm, professional and caring patient experience
What We’re Looking For
Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration
Minimum 1 year post-qualification nursing experience
Previous experience in ophthalmology, theatre, general surgery, ward nursing or outpatients
Ophthalmology or peri-operative experience would be highly desirable
Confident working in a clinical environment and supporting surgical pathways
Flexible approach to bank shifts
Ability to travel between Wetherby, York and Bradford sites when required
