Job Description

The Opportunity

Saab Australia is an industry participant in the Combat Systems Integration - Integrated Project Team (CSI IPT) Collaboration Agreement (CSI IPT CCA). The CSI IPT will bring together personnel from three industry participants and the Commonwealth of Australia to collaborate across multiple naval programs, leveraging synergies between platforms.

The Role

The Electronic Warfare System Engineer, within our Engineering and Sustainment Services group, oversees systems engineering activities for upgrade packages under the Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) program, to be installed on in service Aegis Combat System equipped Royal Australian Navy platforms.

  • Execute allocated systems engineering activities, including requirements analysis, architecture definition, and development of system and subsystem design and integration strategies and plans.
  • Interact with the Systems Engineering Integration Team and transverse engineering disciplines-Security Assurance, Safety, Specialty Engineering, including Integrated Logistics Support (ILS)-to achieve design assurance and holistic system compliance.
  • Contribute to and maintain the Systems Engineering Framework to support CS design activities, assisting with the development and refinement of CS, VCRM, and design artifacts.
  • Carry out system engineering assignments requiring a broad knowledge of standard technologies and their applications.
  • Provide technical support to the engineering domain lead during physical integration of subsystems, develop compartment layouts, and support infrastructure development for assigned systems such as maintenance, PHS&T, and installation methods.
Flexible Work Arrangements

Hybrid work from home/office and a 9 day fortnight may be considered for this role.

About You
  • Tertiary qualification in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related discipline.
  • Up to 4 years of engineering experience prior to this role.
  • Practitioner level experience in systems engineering domains such as requirements management, system architecture, systems integration, and/or verification and validation.
  • Proficiency with systems engineering software tools and simulation environments (e.g., DOORS, Cameo Systems Modeler).
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Solid understanding of systems engineering principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with complex systems-preferably military or related defence technologies (desirable).
  • Experience in an ASDEFCON context (desirable).

Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1 level. Information regarding past and present nationality and citizenship may be requested to verify eligibility for accessing materials controlled under various export control regimes, including ITAR.
