Position Summary
The HIM Release of Information Specialist is responsible for processing Release of Information (ROI) requests for patients and physician practices.

Physical Requirements
Requires sitting for long periods of time, also stooping, bending, standing, and stretching. Must have manual dexterity for typing and computer data entry. Able to work under a stressful environment, work independently, capable of making sound decisions, be detail oriented, alert, and self-motivated. Ability to push/pull up to 40lbs., carry and lift up to 20lbs.

Education
- High-School Diploma required; Associate degree preferred
- 2 or more years of healthcare/Radiology experience preferred
- Proficient computer skills
- Prior PACS or RIS/Epic Radiant experience preferred
- BLS required or must be obtained within 3 months of hire
Experience / Qualifications
- Experience in HIM field with Electronic Medical Record systems, specifically information related to processing release of information requests.
- Cerner experience a plus, must have strong knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
- Good strong understanding of HIM record processing, workflow, and Electronic Medical Records.
- Strong analytic and computer skills. Must also have good communication and organizational skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Familiarity with medical terminology required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Ability to work under stressful situations.
- Ability to use computer/word processing equipment efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to use basic office equipment including copiers, fax machine
- Ability to interact courteously and effectively with physicians, co-workers, patients, and other hospital employees. Proven ability to work well both independently and in a team environment.
Position Summary
The HIM Release of Information Specialist is responsible for processing Release of Information (ROI) requests for patients and physician practices.
Responsibilities include:
- Retrieves records as requested by authorized persons. Ensure that properly executed release of information forms are obtained when necessary.
- Downloads new and returned records according to established systems and policies.
- Retrieves and/or creates patient's electronic records and images via PACS, Ambra, Power Share, Image Share and/or CD's for distribution and delivery to physicians' offices or patients.
- Monitors various software platforms requests (such as: Ambra, Power Share and Image Share e-mail) to ensure completion while monitoring exceptions and following through to ensure report/image/medical information arrives at its intended destination
- Accesses reports and other patient or exam data via RIS, PACS, PACS CUBE and
Epic software systems. - Answers the phone, takes messages, and directs calls appropriately
- Provides coverage during system downtime; maintains flexibility to accommodate departmental needs during a system downtime.
- Assist in training for EMR, PACS and CD burner.
- Acting as liaison to all internal and external customers to facilitate access to hospital services.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Annual Joint Commission mandatory education requirements, in-service and health requirements including attendance at new employee orientation
- TB/PPD Surveillance Program
- Maintenance of required professional licensing and/or certification(s)
