Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support the development and integration of autonomous machine solutions within the Loading, Dozing & Compaction Application Team. The role will focus on defining system architecture, developing system-level integration requirements, decomposing customer requirements, and supporting the validation of integrated hardware and software solutions.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with autonomous systems, construction/mining equipment, CAN/Ethernet communications, system integration, requirements management, and on-machine validation.

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field from an accredited institution.


Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Systems Engineer supporting product development, preferably for autonomous or semi-autonomous machines.

  • Strong understanding of applying computer science, systems engineering, and analytical principles to the design, development, integration, testing, and validation of complex systems.

  • Experience defining system requirements and architecture for integrated autonomous machine solutions.

  • Ability to analyze customer and user needs and translate them into detailed, achievable system-level hardware and software requirements.

  • Experience supporting products throughout the lifecycle, including design, implementation, validation, customer rollout, and production support.

  • Strong experience working across multidisciplinary engineering teams including software, hardware, controls, systems integration, and validation teams.

  • Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.

  • Ability to evaluate and clearly communicate trade-offs involving schedule, resources, technical risk, performance, and quality.

  • Ability to provide data-driven recommendations and technical evidence to influence engineering decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply new autonomous system solutions and technologies to semi-autonomous and fully autonomous machines.

  • Decompose customer requirements into L6 system-level requirements, covering both hardware and software.

  • Develop clear system integration requirements across multiple onboard electronic systems.

  • Define system architecture and interfaces required to integrate autonomous machine functionality.

  • Manage system-level requirements, features, and technical documentation within Azure DevOps or similar tools.

  • Maintain complete requirements traceability from customer needs through system implementation and validation.

  • Work closely with Machine System teams to determine the most effective approach for delivering autonomous machine features.

  • Support hardware component selection, software integration, interfaces, communication protocols, and overall system integration.

  • Collaborate with software, hardware, controls, systems integration, validation, and machine engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.

  • Support validation of autonomous solutions in both lab environments and physical machines.

  • Analyze system behavior and technical issues and support root-cause investigation and resolution.

  • Review system performance, integration readiness, technical dependencies, and product risks.

  • Communicate system readiness, technical risks, design decisions, and mitigation strategies to engineering teams and stakeholders.

  • Provide technical recommendations supported by engineering evidence, analysis, and validation results.

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Surface Loading Machine Autonomous Solutions.

  • Stay current with advancements in autonomous technologies, mining systems, construction equipment, and machine-control architectures.

  • Build credibility as a technical expert through effective decision-making, collaboration, documentation, and engineering execution.


Preferred Experience

  • Experience with Caterpillar Command or comparable autonomous equipment/control systems.

  • Experience working with autonomous solutions in mining, construction, earthmoving, loading, dozing, or compaction applications.

  • Experience with production-level autonomous products from initial design through deployment and customer support.

  • Understanding of vehicle/machine electronic architectures and distributed embedded systems.

  • Experience coordinating system-level testing involving multiple hardware and software components.
