Job Title: Android AAOSP Software / System Architect (Automotive)

Location: Detroit, MI, USA
Job Type: Contract / Full-Time

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Android AAOSP Software/System Architect to lead the architecture, design, and development of next-generation Android Automotive OS (AAOS/AOSP) platforms for connected vehicle infotainment and in-vehicle systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing scalable automotive software architectures, integrating vehicle services, and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver production-grade automotive solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and define end-to-end software architecture for Android Automotive OS (AAOS/AOSP) platforms.
  • Architect infotainment systems, digital cockpit solutions, and vehicle software platforms.
  • Customize and optimize the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) for automotive applications.
  • Lead system architecture reviews and define software design guidelines.
  • Integrate Android Automotive services with vehicle ECUs using automotive communication protocols.
  • Collaborate with hardware, embedded, middleware, HMI/UI, cloud, and application development teams.
  • Design and implement secure, scalable, and high-performance software frameworks.
  • Optimize system boot time, memory usage, power consumption, and overall performance.
  • Define interfaces between Android framework, HAL, Linux Kernel, middleware, and applications.
  • Lead technical discussions with OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure compliance with automotive quality and safety standards.
  • Mentor engineering teams and provide technical leadership throughout the product lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Embedded Systems, or related field.
  • 10+ years of software development experience.
  • 5+ years of Android Automotive (AAOS/AOSP) architecture experience.
  • Strong expertise in Android Framework, AOSP architecture, and Android internals.
  • Deep understanding of Linux-based embedded systems.
  • Experience with Android HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer).
  • Strong knowledge of Binder IPC, HIDL/AIDL, SELinux, init services, and Android build systems.
  • Experience with C++, Java, and Kotlin.
  • Knowledge of Android system services and framework customization.
  • Experience integrating infotainment systems with automotive hardware.
  • Strong debugging and performance optimization skills.
