About the RoleThe Technical Services Engineer Expert - MECM is responsible for the advanced administration, support, and continuous improvement of Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager within a Defence ICT environment. As the subject matter expert for MECM within the Platform Enablement team, the successful candidate will provide technical leadership, serve as the primary escalation point for endpoint management issues, and mentor engineers to build team capability in a structured and secure setting.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the administration and maintenance of MECM/SCCM infrastructure in an enterprise Defence environment, ensuring high availability and performance
- Design, build, and support Operating System Deployment task sequences, including troubleshooting complex deployments across high-latency and satellite-connected sites
- Oversee software packaging, deployment, and patch compliance through SUP/WSUS integration
- Monitor and remediate client health, maintaining endpoint compliance across a geographically distributed environment
- Lead boundary and boundary group management, advising on site configuration to support distributed operations
- Serve as the subject matter expert and primary escalation point for complex MECM issues, providing technical direction to L1/L2 engineers
- Mentor and guide team members, supporting their technical development and capability growth
- Own and maintain documentation including runbooks, standard operating procedures, and change records to Defence ICT standards
- Lead change management activities including preparation, peer review, and execution of change requests
- Expert-level MECM/SCCM administration (Current Branch preferred)
- Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) and Active Directory
- PowerShell scripting for automation and reporting
- WSUS management and software update compliance
- PKI and certificate management in the context of MECM (HTTPS mode, CMG)
- Networking fundamentals (DHCP, DNS, boundary management)
- Experience working in a Defence or high-security ICT environment
- Must hold or be eligible for an Australian Government security clearance (NV2 minimum)
