Data Governance Lead

The Careers are Better at Hungry Jack's!We are looking for an experienced Data Governance Lead, to establish and scale our enterprise data governance capability. This is a newly created role that will shape how data is managed, governed and trusted across Finance, Marketing, Operations and Digital.You'll be responsible for developing governance frameworks, defining data ownership and stewardship models, improving data quality and embedding governance by design into our modern data platform.This is a unique opportunity to build a governance capability from the ground up and make a lasting impact across the business.Responsibilities:Data Governance Strategy & Operating ModelDevelop and implement an enterprise-wide data governance framework aligned to industry best practice (e.g. DAMA-DMBOK)Establish clear data ownership and stewardship models across key business domainsDevelop policies, standards and controls for data quality, access, lifecycle management and complianceEstablish and facilitate a Data Governance Council, including decision-making and escalation frameworksDefine critical data elements (CDEs), business glossaries and standardised business definitionsData Quality & TrustDefine enterprise data quality standards, rules and thresholds for critical data assetsImplement monitoring, validation and issue management processes in partnership with business stakeholders and Data EngineeringEstablish root cause analysis and remediation processes to address recurring data issuesDevelop and report on data quality KPIs and dashboardsImprove trust, consistency and adoption of data across the organisationPlatform Governance & Microsoft FabricPartner with Data Engineering to embed governance controls into our Microsoft Fabric environmentEstablish standards for data lineage, metadata management, classification and access controlsDefine Data Product Contracts and support the development of certified, trusted data productsSupport the implementation and adoption of governance tooling, including Microsoft PurviewAlign governance practices with modern data architecture patterns, including lakehouse and medallion approachesBusiness Adoption & Data CultureDrive the adoption of data ownership and stewardship models across business functionsBuild and maintain business glossaries and shared data definitionsDeliver data governance and data literacy initiatives across the organisationShift accountability for data from an IT-owned model to business-owned stewardshipEnable governed self-service analytics and improve data-driven decision-makingAbout youYou are equally comfortable working with business leaders and technical teams. You enjoy operating in ambiguous environments, influencing without authority and building capability from the ground up.You bring:7-10+ years' experience in Data Governance, Data Management or Data Strategy rolesDemonstrated experience establishing governance capabilities in low-maturity environmentsStrong knowledge of data governance frameworks and practices, including DAMA-DMBOKExperience developing data quality frameworks, data ownership models and business glossariesExperience implementing governance tooling and processesStrong stakeholder management and influencing skills across both business and technical teamsExcellent communication and change management capabilityHighly RegardedExperience within a QSR or multi-site retail environmentExposure to lakehouse and medallion architecture patternsExperience with Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft PurviewUnderstanding of Australian privacy and regulatory requirementsExposure to AI-enabled data management and governance practicesExperience supporting large-scale data transformation programs
