BMS Controls Engineer

Location: Blyth, North East England
Sector: Data Centres / Mission Critical
Project: £10bn Hyperscale Data Centre Campus

Our client is a leading international main contractor delivering some of Europe's most advanced hyperscale and mission-critical data centre developments. They are seeking an experienced BMS Controls Engineer to join the delivery team on a landmark £10bn hyperscale data centre campus in Blyth, North East England.

This flagship development, one of the largest data centre campuses in Europe, will be delivered over the next decade and represents one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in the installation, integration, testing and commissioning of Building Management System (BMS) and controls infrastructure, ensuring critical building systems operate safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications. Working closely with Commissioning Managers, MEP teams, specialist controls contractors, design engineers and client representatives, you will coordinate BMS installation activities, manage technical interfaces and support the successful delivery of complex mission-critical building automation systems through to commissioning and handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the installation and delivery of BMS and controls systems across the project
  • Coordinate specialist BMS subcontractors and controls vendors
  • Review control philosophies, I/O schedules, network architecture and technical documentation
  • Ensure BMS installations comply with project specifications, design intent and client requirements
  • Coordinate interfaces between mechanical, electrical, commissioning and IT/networking teams
  • Support software integration, graphics development and controls validation
  • Manage technical queries, RFIs and design coordination activities
  • Oversee inspections, point-to-point testing, functional testing and quality assurance processes
  • Support integrated systems testing (IST), commissioning and final handover
  • Attend coordination meetings and provide technical support to project delivery teams
  • Identify project risks and implement practical engineering solutions
  • Ensure all activities are delivered safely and in accordance with project quality standards

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a BMS Controls Engineer on major construction projects
  • Previous experience delivering hyperscale data centres, mission-critical facilities, pharmaceutical, industrial or complex commercial developments
  • Strong knowledge of Building Management Systems, PLCs, SCADA and controls integration
  • Experience with major BMS platforms such as Siemens, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Trend, Johnson Controls or Delta Controls
  • Good understanding of HVAC controls, electrical systems and mechanical plant operation
  • Experience supporting testing, commissioning and integrated systems validation
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, control schematics and technical documentation
  • Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Degree, HNC/HND or recognised qualification in Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services or a related discipline
