Job Description
We have a full-time position of Fruit Farm Worker in Bartle Frere QLD 4861.
SKILLSYour role requires you to have at least 12 months of relevant work experience.
RESPONSIBILITIESThe Fruit Farm Worker is responsible for carrying out a wide range of cultivation, harvesting, and post-harvest activities to support the production of high-quality bananas. The role ensures crops are maintained throughout all stages of the growing cycle, harvested efficiently, and prepared for processing and distribution while complying with workplace health and safety requirements, biosecurity standards, and company procedures.
POSITION DUTIES- Meet with farm management to receive daily work instructions and assigned duties.
- Collect, prepare and inspect equipment, machinery and tools required for daily operations.
- Complete pre-start inspections of machinery and report any faults or maintenance requirements.
- Clean, sterilise and maintain equipment and machinery to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Carry out general banana cultivation activities throughout the growing cycle.
- Harvest banana bunches using safe harvesting techniques while maintaining fruit quality.
- Hang, de-hand and wash harvested bananas in preparation for packing.
- Cluster, grade, sort and pack bananas to meet customer and quality specifications.
- Weigh, label, strap, stack and prepare packed produce for storage and distribution.
- Operate farm machinery and equipment to undertake pruning, weeding, slashing, mulching, fertilising and other cultivation activities.
- Bag banana bunches and ensure bunch covers are fitted and secured correctly.
- Carry out bell injection before flower emergence in accordance with farm procedures.
- Perform de-suckering, de-leafing and stringing of banana plants to promote healthy crop development.
- Maintain, repair and monitor irrigation systems, including irrigation lines and sprinklers.
- Safely handle, mix and apply agricultural chemicals using appropriate personal protective equipment and in accordance with workplace procedures.
- Report completed work, crop issues, equipment faults and safety concerns to farm management.
- Comply with workplace health and safety requirements, biosecurity procedures and company policies at all times.
- Assist with other farm operations and duties as required to support the efficient operation of the business.
The position will attract a salary between $70,000 to $80,000 per annum.
