Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Applied Research Center is seeking a Healthcare and Life Sciences Data Specialist to lead the data analysis that drives our litigation and regulatory work in these industries. In this role, you will be the person case teams turn to when they need to know which data sources to use, how to build them into something analytically useful, and what the results mean.

You'll work alongside senior consultants and academic or industry experts, bringing hands-on expertise with healthcare and life sciences data to answer the specific empirical questions that arise in high-stake cases. This means going well beyond routine data pulls: you'll be advising on analytic strategy, building and refining analytic pipelines for large and complex datasets, constructing outcome measures that shape the analysis, and running and interpreting econometric models. You will also be heavily involved with designing innovative workflows that incorporate cutting-edge agentic-AI tools into analyses to improve quality, efficiency, and reproducibility.

Essential Job Functions
  • Consulting with case teams to determine the appropriate data sources needed to conduct the desired analyses.
  • Optimizing procedures for processing large, complex datasets into standard analytic builds.
  • Using, developing, and modifying agentic AI agents and skills (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Gemini 3) for applied data analysis.
  • Identifying opportunities to expand the ARC's catalog of agents and skills and designing improved workflows that incorporate these tools.
  • Using industry-specific knowledge to propose and construct key outcome measures to support the strategic goals of the analysis.
  • Implementing and interpreting the results of the econometric analyses.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • At least 4-5 years of relevant work experience in data analysis, data science, business intelligence, or a related analytical field (relevant education may substitute for experience).
  • Strong technical experience and a deep understanding of the modern data analysis stack (e.g., SQL, Python/R).
  • At least 2-3 years of experience working with one or more of the following types of data:
  • Healthcare claims data (originating from payer or provider).
  • State-level hospital discharge data.
  • Pharmaceutical sales or dispensation data.
  • Pharmaceutical formulary data.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Interest in economics, healthcare, and life sciences.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in quantitative fields such as Economics, Statistics, Data Science, or Computer Science, and/or a health-related field such as Health Economics, Health Services Research, Biostatistics, or Health Policy.
  • Ability to apply advanced statistical and econometric methods to address complex research questions.
  • Hands-on experience using agentic AI tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Gemini 3 in applied analytical work; candidates who have experience developing agents, skills, and other tools are strongly preferred and will be prioritized.
  • Experience in a professional services environment (e.g., economic consulting, management consulting, legal services, finance).
  • Experience working in the healthcare or life sciences industries, or in a related government agency.
  • Knowledge of key healthcare and life sciences concepts, including:
  • The interplay between payers, providers, patients, and various intermediaries in the US healthcare system.
  • Major government programs including Medicare (Parts A, B, D, and Medicare Advantage), Medicaid, and the ACA marketplaces.
  • Characteristics of managed care (e.g. utilization review, prior authorization, network design).
  • The pharmaceutical drug development and commercialization processes.
  • Interactions in the pharmaceutical supply chain between manufacturers, PBMs, wholesalers, pharmacies, insurers, and other end-payers.
  • Foundational and emerging topics in health policy, such as surprise billing legislation, the 340B program, and changes to Medicare Part D from the Inflation Reduction Act.

Cornerstone Research will provide visa support to full-time candidates. If you are applying from within the US, candidates should have at least 12 months remaining of work authorization.
