ASSOCIATE: Associate Software Engineer

LOCATION: Arizona

SUMMARY:

The Associate Software Engineer will play a key role in building and supporting healthcare technology solutions that enable health plan operations, including claims adjudication, eligibility and benefits management, provider data, member engagement, and regulatory reporting. Working in a fast-paced and an Agile environment, this individual will collaborate with cross-functional teams that leverage AI to think outside the box to develop secure, scalable, and reliable applications that improve the healthcare experience for members and providers.

The ideal candidate is passionate about AI, back-end development, and eager to grow their technical skills while gaining exposure to complex healthcare systems and data. This hands-on role includes tailored coaching, technical mentorship, and real-time feedback, providing a strong foundation for a successful career in technology.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, maintain, and enhance enterprise applications while partnering with Agile product teams to deliver solutions that support key business objectives.
• Explore and leverage AI and automation technologies to streamline repetitive work, improve efficiency, and create more opportunities for innovation and collaboration with creative problem-solvers.
• Gain hands-on experience with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and observability practices, using metrics, logs, and system outputs to understand application health, performance, and reliability.
• Support testing, deployment, and ongoing production support efforts to ensure high-quality, reliable applications that meet customer needs and service-level expectations.

Requirements:

• Bachelor s degree in Computer Science or related degree
• 0-3 years Java/.Net Development/Object Oriented Programming (educational, internship, or professional experience accepted)
• Experience with Python programming (educational, internship, or professional experience accepted)
• Hands-on experience with application design, software development and automated testing.
• Understanding of object-oriented and relational database design.
• Ability to collaborate with multiple teams, including UI/UX design, DevOps, and Application Solutions
• Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle and experience practicing Agile methodologies

• AI-Assisted Software Development: Demonstrated experience using AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, OpenCode, Codex, or similar solutions to accelerate development, improve code quality, and enhance productivity.
• AI Automation & Workflow Development: Ability to design, build, and maintain automated workflows leveraging AI-powered platforms and code-based automation solutions. Experience with tools such as n8n, Make.com, or custom automation frameworks is highly valued.
• Software Development Fundamentals: Strong understanding of software engineering principles, application development, testing, debugging, version control, and modern development practices.
• Technical Curiosity & Innovation: Passion for exploring emerging technologies, particularly AI-driven development. Demonstrated through personal projects, side businesses, open-source contributions, or custom applications built outside of academic or professional requirements.
• Portfolio & GitHub Presence: Active GitHub profile showcasing technical projects, code samples, contributions, and a willingness to discuss design decisions, challenges, and outcomes.
• Problem Solving & Continuous Learning: Ability to quickly learn new technologies, independently research solutions, and apply innovative approaches to complex business and technical challenges.

Preferred Technical Competencies

• Experience developing applications in Python or Go, with exposure to Java or .NET also considered valuable.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and application deployment processes.
• Working knowledge of infrastructure and configuration management tools, including YAML, Terraform, or similar technologies.
• Understanding of modern DevOps principles and CI/CD practices.

Highly Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building solutions with agentic AI frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, Pydantic AI, CrewAI, AutoGen, or similar libraries.
• Experience designing, building, or deploying AI agents, especially coding agents or autonomous workflow agents.
• Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, integrations, or agent-to-tool communication frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to articulate the business value, technical architecture, and lessons learned from AI-powered projects and implementations.

Candidates will stand out if they can demonstrate:

• Hands-on experience building AI-powered applications beyond coursework or tutorials.
• Development of custom AI agents, coding assistants, or autonomous workflows.
• Meaningful open-source contributions or publicly available GitHub repositories.
• A strong passion for leveraging AI to solve real-world problems and improve developer productivity
