Job Title Senior Security Advisor

Job Summary As a Senior Cyber Security Advisor, you will play a critical role in Telstra's Global Networks & Technology - Security & Operations team, driving enterprise-wide security outcomes through strategic engagement and technical leadership. You are accountable for establishing and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders across Cyber Assurance engagements-including Group Owners, Technical Product Owners, and internal business units. Your focus will be on enabling secure delivery of business missions by providing expert guidance, simplifying complex security challenges, and ensuring alignment with Telstra's risk and compliance frameworks. Working within Security & Operations, the role leads end-to-end security engagements, coordinates assurance activities, and drives continuous improvement across cybersecurity processes. The Senior Cyber Security Advisor provides expert advice on security controls, risk treatment, and governance, while fostering a strong security culture and enabling the safe delivery of strategic business initiatives. The position requires significant experience in cybersecurity, risk management, and operational improvement, supported by strong communication, leadership, and influencing skills.

What You'll Do
  • Act as a trusted security advisor to business and technology stakeholders.
  • Lead and support security assessments, assurance activities, and risk reviews.
  • Provide practical, risk-based security recommendations aligned with security and compliance frameworks.
  • Drive security-by-design principles and promote cybersecurity awareness.
  • Improve security processes, governance, standards, and operational effectiveness.
  • Support the adoption of security tools, capabilities, and frameworks.
  • Develop security guidance, procedures, templates, and playbooks.
  • Use operational metrics and reporting to drive continuous improvement and enhance stakeholder experience.
About You
  • 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity advisory, risk management, security operations, governance, or assurance.
  • Experience conducting security assessments and managing security risks.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent communication and influencing capabilities across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement skills.
  • Experience creating standards, procedures, and operational documentation.
  • Solid understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, controls, technologies, and emerging threats.
