Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Software Engineer to design, develop, implement, and maintain complex operating system software and enterprise-level software applications supporting mission-critical environments. The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership in systems programming, software architecture, operating system maintenance, and enterprise infrastructure integration while ensuring compliance with DoD architecture standards, cybersecurity requirements, and open systems principles. This role requires extensive experience in software engineering, system design, technical analysis, and mentoring technical teams throughout the software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, modify, and maintain complex operating system software and enterprise software applications.
  • Formulate functional and technical specifications for new software solutions and enhancements.
  • Design scalable software architectures that integrate software, hardware, communications, and enterprise infrastructure.
  • Develop high-level system architecture diagrams, technical design documentation, and implementation plans.
  • Perform systems programming, software development, debugging, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Analyze software requirements and recommend technology solutions to improve system performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Evaluate engineering releases, software patches, utilities, and vendor updates for implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD enterprise architecture standards, open systems architecture, cybersecurity policies, and interoperability requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for hardware and software modernization and develop implementation recommendations.
  • Perform software integration activities across enterprise applications and infrastructure components.
  • Support operating system administration and maintenance activities, including advanced file management, system utilities, telecommunications environments, and enterprise software packages.
  • Evaluate commercial and government software products for functionality, performance, security, and compatibility.
  • Conduct software quality assurance reviews, code reviews, and technical assessments.
  • Troubleshoot complex software and system issues while providing root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with project managers to develop project schedules, technical roadmaps, resource estimates, and implementation strategies.
  • Lead software development efforts and provide technical guidance to engineers, developers, and systems programmers.
  • Review technical deliverables to ensure quality, compliance, and adherence to established standards.
  • Prepare technical documentation including software design documents, interface specifications, operational procedures, and maintenance guides.
  • Support software lifecycle activities including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, sustainment, and upgrades.
  • Assist with enterprise software modernization initiatives and operating system enhancements.
  • Ensure software solutions support current operational requirements while accommodating future enterprise growth.
