About the role

In this role, you will collaborate with platform engineers, business stakeholders, and the Digital Experience Team to deliver modern, user-focused digital products and services. Leveraging your Drupal expertise and contemporary web development skills, you'll help shape our web architecture, influence the future Drupal roadmap, and deliver innovative, scalable solutions that support our long-term digital vision and create meaningful value for the organisation and community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver enterprise-grade Drupal solutions that underpin the City of Greater Geelong's web presence, exercising a high degree of technical expertise and judgement across custom development, theming, and reusable components.
  • Contribute to and influence the endorsed Drupal roadmap, ensuring platform development is aligned with Council priorities, community expectations, and strategic digital objectives.
  • Provide specialist input into solution design, including headless and decoupled Drupal architectures, to support scalable, secure, and future-ready digital service delivery.
  • Develop and manage integrations with Council systems (e.g. CRM, ERP, and service platforms), ensuring reliability, security, and alignment with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Apply and uphold standards for accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA), performance, security, and privacy, ensuring compliance with government legislation and best practice.
  • Drive the adoption of contemporary Drupal development practices, including governance, coding standards, CI/CD, automated testing, and quality assurance, contributing to continuous improvement of delivery capability.
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and provide oversight of external vendors, ensuring delivered outcomes meet Council standards, user needs, and agreed delivery outcomes.
  • Analyse, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues, while contributing to platform optimisation, knowledge sharing, and the ongoing sustainability of Council's digital services.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have relevant qualification in Computer Science or related field and or significant professional experience in a comparable organisation.

  • Demonstrated expertise in Drupal development (Drupal 10/11), including custom module development, theming, configuration management, and site building.
  • Proven experience in integrating Drupal with enterprise systems (e.g. CRM, ERP, service platforms) using RESTful APIs.
  • Experience applying contemporary development practices such as Agile delivery, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and version control (e.g. Git/MS DevOps).
  • Strong understanding of web standards including security, performance optimisation, accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA), and privacy requirements.
  • Experience in designing and implementing headless or decoupled Drupal architectures and integrating with modern front-end frameworks (e.g. React, Next.js).
  • Knowledge of content strategy, UX/UI principles, and digital service design practices.

Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check and Working with Children's Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
