The Role

We are looking for a NetDocuments AI & PatternBuilder Specialist to work closely with the IT Director on the implementation, configuration and rollout of NetDocuments' AI and automation capabilities across a law firm.

This is a hands-on specialist role for someone who already understands the NetDocuments ecosystem, with particular expertise in PatternBuilder, PatternBuilder MAX/AI App Builder and NetDocuments' AI capabilities.

The successful candidate will help take the firm from initial configuration and use-case identification through to building solutions, testing, deployment and successful user adoption.

This is not a general IT support or generic AI role. We are specifically looking for someone with practical experience implementing and configuring NetDocuments automation and AI solutions within a legal environment.

Key Responsibilities

Working directly with the IT Director and key stakeholders across the firm, you will:

  • Lead the setup, configuration and rollout of NetDocuments PatternBuilder and AI functionality.
  • Design, build and configure PatternBuilder workflows and applications.
  • Develop AI-enabled workflows and applications using PatternBuilder MAX/NetDocuments AI App Builder.
  • Work with lawyers, Knowledge Management, IT and other stakeholders to identify high-value legal processes suitable for automation.
  • Translate legal and business requirements into practical NetDocuments workflows and AI applications.
  • Configure and refine prompts, workflows, templates, logic and automation.
  • Develop use cases around areas such as document drafting, summarisation, information extraction, document review and precedent/playbook-driven workflows.
  • Test applications and workflows thoroughly before deployment.
  • Establish appropriate governance and controls around the use of AI within NetDocuments.
  • Support pilot programmes and phased firm-wide rollout.
  • Produce documentation and best-practice guidance for administrators and users.
  • Deliver training and knowledge transfer to the internal IT team and end users.
  • Troubleshoot configuration and implementation issues.
  • Work with NetDocuments and relevant third-party partners where required.
  • Monitor adoption and feedback following rollout and continually improve workflows and applications.

What We're Looking For

The key requirement is strong, hands-on NetDocuments experience.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Demonstrable experience implementing and administering NetDocuments within a law firm or legal environment.
  • Strong practical experience with NetDocuments PatternBuilder.
  • Experience with PatternBuilder MAX/NetDocuments AI App Builder and AI functionality.
  • Experience designing and building document automation or workflow solutions.
  • An understanding of how law firms manage documents, matters, precedents and legal workflows.
  • Experience taking technology from proof of concept/pilot through to production rollout.
  • The ability to gather requirements directly from lawyers and translate them into workable technical solutions.
  • Strong understanding of AI prompting and workflow design.
  • An appreciation of the security, confidentiality, governance and risk considerations associated with deploying AI within a law firm.
  • Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently and act as the firm's subject-matter expert for this area.

Particularly Valuable Experience

Experience in any of the following would be highly advantageous:

  • NetDocuments administration and configuration
  • PatternBuilder/PatternBuilder MAX
  • NetDocuments AI App Builder
  • ndMAX/NetDocuments AI capabilities
  • Legal document automation
  • Legal technology implementation
  • Knowledge Management systems
  • Microsoft 365 integration within NetDocuments
  • AI governance within a law firm
  • Legal workflow and process automation
  • Previous consultancy or project work delivering NetDocuments solutions to law firms

The Person

We're looking for someone who can do more than advise on what is possible.

You should be comfortable getting into the platform, building and configuring solutions, testing them with users and driving them through to successful deployment.

You'll work closely with the IT Director but will also need to engage confidently with lawyers and other stakeholders to understand how they work, identify opportunities for automation and turn those requirements into usable NetDocuments solutions.

The role would particularly suit an experienced NetDocuments consultant, legal technology specialist or NetDocuments administrator/developer who has developed specialist knowledge of PatternBuilder and NetDocuments' emerging AI capabilities.
