Job Description

Electronic Characterization Engineer & Technician Roles

  • The client is looking to increase the candidate pool for Electronic Characterization Engineer and Technician roles in Irvine, CA and Palo Alto, CA.
  • There has been a limited number of candidates received so far, so suppliers are encouraged to broaden the search.
  • Candidates from Canada or Mexico with valid TN visas who are willing to relocate may also be considered.
  • Candidates willing to relocate from the East Coast or other locations within the next few weeks can be considered.
  • The client has a sense of urgency and would like to see more qualified profiles submitted.

Technician Role:

  • Bachelor’s degree is not necessarily required.
  • The technician is essentially expected to function as a Test Engineer.
  • Must have experience with bench-level testing of electronic circuit boards / PCBs.
  • Should be familiar with test equipment and understand how to properly connect test equipment to the device under test.
  • Strong PCB testing and validation experience is acceptable even without automotive industry experience.
  • Candidates from any industry may be considered if they have relevant PCB testing/validation experience.

Electrical Characterization Engineer Role:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • This role is considered one level above the technician position and is essentially a Design Validation Engineer role.
  • Must have a strong understanding of electronic circuits and circuit design.
  • Should be capable of debugging issues on electronic circuit boards.
  • Must be able to analyze and challenge the design from a validation perspective and work closely with the design team.
  • Automotive experience is not mandatory if the candidate has strong relevant electrical characterization/design validation experience.

Key Difference:

  • Technician = Test Engineer: Bench-level PCB testing, test equipment setup, and validation.
  • Electrical Characterization Engineer = Design Validation Engineer: Circuit understanding, electrical characterization, debugging, and challenging/validating the design.

Contract Duration:

  • 12 months for both Technician and Electrical Characterization Engineer roles.

Supplier Action:

  • Please broaden sourcing efforts and submit additional qualified profiles as soon as possible.
  • Consider local candidates, relocation candidates, and qualified TN visa candidates from Canada/Mexico.
