Job Description

We are seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support the successful delivery of commercial electrical construction projects for a well-established electrical contractor in the Detroit market. Working alongside Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams, this role helps coordinate project execution from preconstruction through closeout while ensuring projects remain on schedule, within budget, and aligned with quality and safety standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in commercial electrical construction, with a defined path toward Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager. Experience supporting healthcare, higher education, industrial, institutional, or other complex commercial projects is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers with the execution of commercial electrical construction projects from startup through closeout.
  • Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, transmittals, procurement logs, and project documentation.
  • Review electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, and scopes of work.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and general contractors.
  • Track material procurement, equipment deliveries, long-lead items, and project milestones.
  • Assist with project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, billing, and financial reporting.
  • Participate in project meetings, site visits, and coordination meetings to monitor progress and resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with estimating and BIM/VDC teams to improve constructability and project coordination.
  • Maintain organized project records, document control systems, meeting minutes, and correspondence.
  • Assist with material takeoffs, procurement planning, project logistics, commissioning, and closeout activities.
  • Support field operations by helping resolve scheduling, procurement, and coordination challenges.
  • 2+ years of experience in commercial construction, project engineering, or electrical construction.
  • Experience working for a commercial electrical contractor, specialty contractor, or commercial subcontractor is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of commercial electrical systems, construction methods, installation practices, and field operations.
  • Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, scheduling, and construction documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
  • Strong organizational, communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites throughout the Detroit metropolitan area.
  • Experience supporting healthcare, hospital, higher education, industrial, institutional, or other complex commercial projects is a plus.
