Heavy Equipment Operator

We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to work in a busy environment. This position will primarily operate a mobile shearer to process and cut large pieces of scrap metal into manageable sizes for sorting, processing, and recycling.
Responsibilities:

• Safely and efficiently operate a hydraulic scrap metal shearer.
• Process, cut, and size various types of scrap metal.
• Load, move, and position scrap materials for processing.
• Inspect materials and identify items that may require special handling.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and report any mechanical issues.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area around operating equipment.
• Follow all safety procedures and company guidelines.
• Assist with general scrap-yard operations as needed.
• Communicate with other yard employees to coordinate material movement and processing.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating a scrap shearer, excavator, material handler, or other heavy equipment preferred.
• Ability to safely operate heavy machinery in an industrial environment.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to recognize basic equipment issues.
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Strong attention to safety and awareness of surroundings.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Previous scrap-yard or metal recycling experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods.
• Ability to climb in and out of heavy equipment.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical labor as needed.
• Ability to work around loud machinery, dust, metal, and industrial equipment.

Work Environment

This is a fast-paced, industrial scrap-yard environment with heavy machinery, metal materials, noise, dust, and outdoor working conditions. Safety, equipment awareness, and proper operation of the shearer are critical to success in this position.
