Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (ADABAS) to support the administration, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise database environments. This role is responsible for managing production and non-production databases, ensuring database availability, security, performance, backup and recovery, and maintaining enterprise data standards across the organization.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience administering ADABAS databases in a mainframe environment, strong knowledge of Software AG products, database performance tuning, backup and recovery, and enterprise database management.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain production and non-production database environments
- Monitor database health, performance, and availability to ensure reliable system operations
- Maintain standards for physical data storage, database maintenance, security administration, and data access
- Perform database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery operations across Database Management Systems (DBMS)
- Configure database parameters and optimize database environments for performance and reliability
- Develop prototype database designs based on logical data models
- Define and maintain data repositories, data dictionaries, and data warehousing requirements
- Optimize database access paths and query performance
- Allocate and reallocate database resources to maximize performance, scalability, and cost efficiency
- Monitor database capacity and recommend performance improvements
- Ensure database security, integrity, and compliance with organizational standards
- Troubleshoot database issues and provide timely resolution
- Collaborate with application development and infrastructure teams to support enterprise database initiatives
- Develop and maintain database administration documentation, procedures, and operational standards
- Support database upgrades, maintenance activities, and system enhancements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in database design, testing, implementation, maintenance, and administration across multiple database platforms
- Experience managing and maintaining both production and non-production databases
- Experience performing database backup and recovery operations
- Experience configuring database parameters and designing databases using logical data models
- Experience defining data repositories, data dictionaries, and data warehousing requirements
- Experience optimizing database performance and allocating database resources for maximum efficiency and cost effectiveness
- Hands-on experience as an ADABAS Database Administrator (DBA)
- Hands-on experience with Software AG products in a mainframe environment
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working onsite in Tallahassee, Florida
- Experience administering IBM DB2 databases
- Experience supporting enterprise mainframe database environments
- Experience with database performance tuning and optimization
