Data Center Operations Technician Trainee (6 months) , Data Centre Operations, Sydney

Are you excited about Server and Networking Technology and want to work in the largest data centers in the world? If so, we want to meet you and help grow your technical skills through a 6 month contract that includes coaching, periodic assessments, and the possibility of a full time role upon successful completion. You will learn the daily operations of a large data center, work with servers and network equipment, and collaborate with teams such as logistics, networking, security, and projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support data center infrastructure equipment (racks, servers, hardware components, networking devices and cables) following SOPs.
  • Perform routine operations such as rack installations, server break/fix, hardware component replacements, diagnosing hardware faults, troubleshooting network links and rack decommissioning under guidance.
  • Use Directed Workflow Instructions for hardware replacements and document all work in ticket tracking systems.
  • Identify issue severity, work within stated SLA, and escalate when work deviates from established processes.
  • Manage inventory tasks including receiving equipment, decommissioning hardware, liquidating racks or components, and performing storage media sanitization and destruction.
  • Operate safely in a high security environment, following information security policies and physical safety practices.
  • Use technical documentation to find solutions and perform routine tasks following clear instructions.
  • Collaborate with AWS stakeholders as part of a team performing similar tasks.
Basic Qualifications
  • Attitude, willingness to learn, and aptitude for technical work - formal qualifications are helpful but not required.
  • Some exposure to IT hardware, networking, or technical support (studies, personal projects, hobbyist experience).
  • Enthusiasm for technology and desire to build a career in data center operations or IT infrastructure.
  • Willingness to work hands on, using appropriate tools and equipment; ability to lift equipment with available lifting aids.
  • Ability to travel between data center sites as needed (valid driver's licence required).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow documented processes.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Professional attitude with commitment to safety, quality, and reliability in delivering a high quality customer experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant technical qualification such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or equivalent (or currently working toward one).
  • Previous experience in a customer facing, operational, or physical technical role.
  • Experience from self taught learning, online courses, bootcamps, apprenticeships, military, or transferable skills from other industries.
  • Previously received mentoring and structured skill development (bonus).
