Job Description

Consultant Engineer I | Reston, VA, United States | Hybrid

We are hiring for a leading national mutual insurance company with nearly two centuries of experience, dedicated to property risk management and the resilience of its policyholder-owners. Our capital, scientific research, and engineering expertise are exclusively focused on helping the world's largest organizations understand and mitigate property hazards, ensuring business continuity through a combination of loss prevention and insurance protection.

The Role

  • Conduct engineering field visits and technical writing for large commercial clients.
  • Perform hands-on assessments of physical structures and evaluate key risk factors including site water supply, dust hazards, chemical storage, and rack storage configurations.
  • Support clients in strengthening safety, protecting assets, and improving overall risk management.
  • Communicate recommendations and engineering solutions to ensure client understanding.
  • Assess risks at commercial properties and help clients reduce operational and property-related risks.
  • Travel to clients' facilities daily, with approximately 30% overnight travel and travel to natural catastrophe sites as needed.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or fire protection.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Efficient time management ability and capacity to work independently.
  • Proven technical capability with diverse knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, lift >25 lbs., and work in confined spaces, as required by some clients.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products.
