Metallurgical Technician (Metallurgical or Materials Technician - ANZSCO 312912)

Location: St Elmo Site, Julia Creek, QLD, Australia. Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time. Recruitment managed by: Yakr Pty Ltd.

Scidell Pty Ltd, an allied company of Multicom Resources Pty Ltd, is a scientific delivery alliancing company delivering professional and cost-effective solutions to Multicom. Multicom is developing the Saint Elmo Project to advance high-purity critical minerals, including vanadium and high-purity alumina (HPA).

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and improve metallurgical performance targets for the Saint Elmo refinery and mine facility.
  • Test materials, operate equipment, and optimize processes to ensure safe, efficient plant operations, under the supervision of the Process Supervisor.
  • Apply technical data analysis and hands-on testing within a minerals processing environment.
  • Process Optimization & Monitoring: adjust parameters (temperature, pressure, flow rates, chemical concentrations) to maximize plant throughput, vanadium/HPA recovery, and quality cost efficiency.
  • Metallurgical Testing & Surveys: coordinate sampling activities and execute test work to identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Operate plant machinery and equipment safely in accordance with SOPs.
  • Monitor equipment across the process plant and onsite laboratory to ensure optimization and evaluate alternative methods.
  • Perform quality control checks and review technical data to identify noncompliance or optimization opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of operations, parameters, production, and testing; generate metallurgical reconciliations and timely daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
  • Troubleshoot basic equipment issues, provide technical support to operations, laboratory teams, and the senior process engineering team.
  • Adhere to Site Safety and Health Management System and all SOPs; report safety hazards or incidents promptly.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Extractive Metallurgy, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a similar metallurgical or materials testing role within a mineral/metal process and refinery environment.
  • Licences: Radiation Safety Licence (or ability to obtain) and a Queensland Driver's Licence (manual preferred).
  • Technical Skills: Understanding of process control systems, mechanical aptitude, and ability to source, interpret, and communicate quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Personal Attributes: Highly detail-oriented, safety-conscious, eager to learn, reliable, and able to follow technical instructions accurately; strong problem-solving skills.
  • Pre-Employment Screening: Ability to pass a comprehensive medical examination including drug and alcohol screening.
