£60-£70 per hour | 6-Month Rolling Contract | Hybrid (2-3 Days Onsite) | Newcastle

We're looking for an SC Cleared Software Engineer (or someone eligible to obtain SC Clearance) to join a collaborative Agile team developing cutting-edge cloud-based Geospatial software. This is an exciting opportunity to work with modern cloud technologies, contributing to the design, development, testing, and deployment of scalable, high-performance services.

This is a 6-month rolling contract with a hybrid working model, requiring 2-3 days per week onsite in Newcastle.

The Role

As a Software Engineer, you'll be involved throughout the full software development life cycle, working within a supportive Agile Scrum environment to deliver innovative cloud-native solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality, scalable, and maintainable Java applications.
• Build cloud-based services using modern development practices.
• Write unit and automated tests to ensure software quality.
• Participate in design and code reviews, promoting best practices for security, scalability, and maintainability.
• Produce clear technical documentation and share knowledge across the team.
• Contribute to sprint planning, estimations, daily stand-ups, and sprint reviews.
• Collaborate closely with the wider Scrum team to deliver sprint commitments.
• Champion continuous improvement and engineering excellence.

Essential Skills

• Strong commercial experience with Java
• Experience developing cloud-based services
• Unit testing experience
• Experience working within Agile/Scrum teams

Desirable Skills

• DevSecOps tools such as Tekton, ArgoCD, and SonarQube
• Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes
• Quarkus Framework
• Front End development using Angular

Security Clearance

Candidates must hold active SC Clearance or be eligible and willing to undergo SC Clearance.

• Rate: £60-£70 per hour
• Contract: 6-month rolling

• Working Pattern: Hybrid - 2-3 days per week onsite
