Job Title: Sr Data Engineer

Location: Chicago, Il ( All 5 days Onsite)- Locals Preferred- They might need to go in person Interview.

What You''ll Do

Design, build, and optimize ELT/ETL pipelines feeding and consuming Snowflake data warehouses, including schema design, performance tuning, and cost/credit optimization.

Support lift-and-shift migrations of existing BI/data stacks (e.g., Metabase, Tableau, Power BI) onto Snowflake, replicating existing views, tables, and pipeline logic where source documentation is incomplete.

Build and maintain Snowflake objects (warehouses, databases, schemas, roles, RBAC), and implement Streams, Tasks, and Snowpipe for near-real-time ingestion.

Write advanced, performant SQL for data transformation, validation, and reconciliation across source and target systems.

Collaborate with the broader Data Platforms team on integration points with the Enterprise Data Lake (Databricks Bronze/Silver/Gold, Unity Catalog/ABAC), Reltio MDM, and Elastic Search environments.

Implement data quality gates, validation checks, and reconciliation logic to ensure accuracy during and after migrations.

Document pipeline architecture, data lineage, and operational runbooks for handoff to the internal team.

Participate in daily stand-ups and provide clear status updates against milestones — this is a delivery-focused, execution-heavy engagement.

Required Qualifications

·         10+ years of hands-on Data Engineering experience - building, operating, and troubleshooting production ETL/ELT pipelines (not just BI/reporting development).

·         Strong, demonstrable Snowflake experience - data modeling, warehouse sizing/performance tuning, RBAC/security, Streams/Tasks/Snowpipe, and cost optimization. Candidates should be prepared to speak to specific Snowflake implementations or migrations they''ve delivered.

·         Advanced SQL skills - complex joins, window functions, query optimization, and data reconciliation across heterogeneous sources.

·         Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure preferred) and modern ELT tooling (dbt, Fivetran, ADF, or equivalent) also strong knowledge of AWS environment.

·         Proven ability to work independently with minimal ramp-up time; comfortable operating in an ambiguous environment where source-system documentation may be incomplete.

·         Strong written and verbal communication in English; able to work core U.S. business hours regardless of location.

Preferred Qualifications

·         Experience with Databricks (medallion architecture, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog) - Newmark''s Enterprise Data Lake runs on Databricks and this role will interface with it.

·         Exposure to Reltio or other MDM platforms.

·         Experience migrating from/to BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Metabase.

·         Prior experience in commercial real estate, financial services, or other data-governance-heavy industries.

·         Elastic Search experience.

What Success Looks Like

·         Rapid ramp-up with minimal hand-holding - able to independently reverse-engineer existing pipeline logic from source systems with limited documentation.

·         Clean, well-documented, production-grade pipeline code - not prototype-quality work.

·         Proactive identification of data quality/reconciliation issues before they reach downstream BI consumers.

·         Reliable delivery against weekly milestones in a fast-moving, multi-workstream environment.
