Job Description

GovCIO is currently hiring a highly experienced Enterprise Solution Architect to support critical enterprise IT systems and mission-critical objectives for the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). This technical role focuses on designing, aligning, and delivering scalable, secure, and resilient technology solutions that meet the rigid security postures of government clients.This position will be located in Alexandria, VA,and will be a hybrid position.

Responsibilities

The Enterprise Solution Architect will serve as a primary technical authority for enterprise architecture and solution alignment. Core responsibilities include:
  • Architect and design scalable, secure, and resilient IT solutions across on-premises and cloud environments (e.g., AWS GovCloud, Azure Government).
  • Align technical solutions with the strategic vision and operational priorities of government leadership.
  • Lead technical scoping sessions to evaluate and recommend appropriate technologies and architectures.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity frameworks, including RMF, DISA STIGs, and Zero Trust principles.
  • Drive automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency, reduce manual processes, and enhance system reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, cybersecurity, program management, and government stakeholders.
  • Develop and present solution roadmaps, technical documentation, and architecture diagrams.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in enterprise IT, cloud services, and federal cybersecurity mandates.
  • Review test plans/procedures to ensure they meet contractual objectives and participate in the testing process to validate requirements.
  • Coordinate the planning, design, and installation of equipment, applying engineering and programming knowledge along with the use of sophisticated instruments and computing systems.
  • Participate in system conceptual design and document design concepts to support solution development and stakeholder alignment.

Qualifications

High School with 12+ years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills & Experience
  • Certifications: DoD 8570 IAT Level II or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, or vendor-specific identity certifications).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in enterprise IT architecture, preferably within federal or DoD environments.
  • Strong understanding of DoD security postures, including NIST, RMF, and STIG compliance.
  • Hands-on experience with both on-prem infrastructure and cloud platforms (e.g., VMware, Azure, AWS).
  • Familiarity with automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines).
  • Ability to scope and evaluate technologies based on mission needs, budget, and security requirements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into strategic outcomes..

Clearance Level: Must have an active Secret clearance

Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Architect, CISSP, or DoD 8570-compliant credentials.
  • Prior experience supporting U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) or Department of Homeland Security (DHS) identity management programs.
  • Experience working directly with government leadership or senior military officials.
  • Background in systems engineering or software development is a plus.
  • Display interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, and time management skills.
  • Experience in creating architectural models demonstrating how products, operations and systems interoperate within the organization.
