Their customers operate in sectors including Aerospace, Space, Defence, Motorsport, Medical, Nuclear, Naval, Oil & Gas, Chemical Processing, Power Generation and Advanced Manufacturing.
We are looking for a Materials Engineer, Metallurgist or Materials Science Graduate to join our growing Technical Services team based in Biggleswade.

About the RoleAs a Materials Engineer, you will provide technical support, metallurgical analysis and laboratory testing to both internal business units and external customers.
Working within our specialist metallurgical laboratory, you will investigate engineering materials, prepare metallographic samples, analyse microstructures and support customers with material selection and technical enquiries.
This is a varied role offering exposure to a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, manufacturing processes and engineering applications.
Key Responsibilities- Perform metallurgical investigations on engineering materials.
- Prepare and polish metallographic specimens.
- Develop and carry out etching procedures for microstructural examination.
- Examine and interpret microstructures using metallurgical techniques.
- Conduct and support mechanical testing, physical testing and spectrographic chemical analysis.
- Handle laboratory chemicals safely in accordance with COSHH regulations.
- Dispose of laboratory chemicals following safe working procedures.
- Provide technical support to customers and internal departments.
- Assist with materials selection and problem-solving.
- Liaise with suppliers regarding material specifications and technical issues.
- Support customer training events and technical demonstrations.
- Maintain laboratory documentation and quality standards.
- Degree (BEng or BSc) in Metallurgy, Materials Science or Materials Engineering.
- Knowledge of ferrous metallurgy and non-ferrous metallurgy.
- Experience preparing, polishing, etching and assessing metallographic specimens.
- Knowledge of metallography, microstructure analysis and laboratory techniques.
- Understanding of mechanical testing, physical testing and chemical analysis.
- Experience working safely with chemicals in accordance with COSHH.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with a customer-focused approach.
- Experience in a metallurgical laboratory or materials testing laboratory.
- Knowledge of failure analysis, heat treatment or quality assurance.
- Experience providing technical support within manufacturing or engineering.
- Interest in continuous professional development within materials engineering.
