Sybase Developer

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Sybase Developer to join our technology team. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE), SQL development, database programming, performance tuning, and database design. The candidate will work closely with application developers, business analysts, and database administrators to develop, optimize, and maintain enterprise database solutions that support critical business applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain database solutions using Sybase ASE.
• Develop, modify, and optimize stored procedures, triggers, functions, views, and SQL scripts.
• Write complex SQL queries for reporting, data extraction, and application support.
• Perform query optimization and database performance tuning.
• Analyze execution plans and resolve performance bottlenecks.
• Design and maintain database schemas, indexes, and constraints.
• Support data migration, database upgrades, and release deployments.
• Collaborate with application development teams to integrate database solutions.
• Troubleshoot production database issues and provide timely resolution.
• Ensure database integrity, security, and data consistency.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for database objects and processes.
• Participate in code reviews and follow database development best practices.
• Support production deployments and provide post-implementation support.
• Work closely with DBAs to improve database performance and availability.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE).
• Strong proficiency in Transact-SQL (T-SQL).
• Experience developing:
  • Stored Procedures
  • Triggers
  • Views
  • User Defined Functions
  • Cursors
• Strong understanding of relational database concepts and normalization.
• Experience with query optimization and performance tuning.
• Knowledge of indexing strategies and execution plan analysis.
• Experience with database backup, recovery concepts, and deployment processes.
• Familiarity with Unix/Linux environments.
• Experience using Git or other version control systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SQL Server, Oracle, or other relational databases.
• Experience with ETL tools and data migration.
• Knowledge of Shell scripting or Python.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Financial services, healthcare, or insurance domain experience.
• Exposure to cloud database technologies (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) is a plus.
