Software Development Manager

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of software engineers within a modern cloud-native environment. Reporting to the IT Director, you will drive engineering delivery, coach and develop team members, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, secure and reliable software solutions.

This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for a Software Engineering Manager or Software Development Manager from a SaaS/product-led technology business, who originally came from a strong software engineering background.

You will have genuinely managed engineers, performance, coaching, hiring, delivery, quality and engineering standards, while remaining technically credible enough to challenge and support senior engineers.

Ideally you will come from modern, fast-moving engineering environments with strong cloud-native architecture, CI/CD, automation, observability and DevOps practices. I'd also like someone very forward-thinking around where software engineering is going, including AI-assisted development and continually improving developer productivity.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop software engineers.
• Manage engineering delivery, team performance and priorities.
• Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes and standards.
• Oversee software quality, testing, CI/CD and release management.
• Work closely with Product and business stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes.
• Champion security, governance and best engineering practices.
• Support recruitment, capacity planning and team growth.

About You

• Previous experience leading software engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile delivery and DevOps practices.
• Hands-on software development background.
• Experience managing software quality, testing and delivery.
• Excellent stakeholder and communication skills.
• Ability to balance delivery, quality and operational excellence.
