Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator 2 (DBA 2) to support database migration, administration, troubleshooting, backup/recovery, and day-to-day break/fix activities within a Microsoft SQL Server environment.

The DBA 2 will assist with migrating existing databases from an end-of-life hosted/hardware platform to a new hosted platform. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration, database migrations, architecture, troubleshooting, backup/recovery, and post-migration validation.

This position will also provide operational support for the SQL environment, allowing the dedicated DBA to focus primarily on ongoing projects and database migration initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the migration of existing databases from an end-of-life platform to a new hosted/hardware solution.

  • Perform database migration planning, execution, validation, and troubleshooting.

  • Conduct post-migration validation to confirm database availability, connectivity, performance, integrity, and application functionality.

  • Provide day-to-day break/fix and incident response for Microsoft SQL Server environments.

  • Administer SQL Server databases across multiple versions, including SQL Server 2008 through 2019.

  • Perform database backups, restores, recovery, and related operational activities.

  • Support production database backup and restore processes.

  • Troubleshoot database performance, connectivity, configuration, and operational issues.

  • Execute database updates and maintenance activities as required.

  • Assist with database architecture and environment troubleshooting in a production working environment.

  • Monitor database health, availability, and performance and escalate issues when appropriate.

  • Support recovery activities during incidents and outages.

  • Document migration procedures, troubleshooting steps, configurations, and operational processes.

  • Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and project teams during migrations and production support activities.

  • Provide additional support to the primary DBA on migration and project-related work as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in a production environment.

  • Experience migrating databases between hosted platforms, hardware solutions, or environments.

  • Experience with SQL Server 2008–2019.

  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server backup, restore, and recovery procedures.

  • Production experience troubleshooting SQL Server issues and responding to incidents.

  • Experience validating databases and application connectivity following migrations.

  • Working knowledge of database architecture, configuration, performance, and troubleshooting.

  • Experience supporting production databases in a business-critical environment.

  • Strong understanding of database administration and maintenance practices.

  • Ability to work independently on operational issues and collaborate with technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Oracle database administration or a mixed SQL Server/Oracle environment.

  • Experience migrating databases from end-of-life hardware/platforms to modern infrastructure.
