Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Licensed Mechanical Engineer (PE) with a strong background in HVAC and MEP system design for commercial buildings. This is a technical engineering role focused on the design, analysis, and documentation of mechanical systems—not project management.
The ideal candidate will lead mechanical design efforts from concept through construction, serving as the Engineer of Record while collaborating with architects, engineers, and construction teams. You'll work on a diverse portfolio of projects including healthcare, commercial, municipal, institutional, veterinary, and other specialized facilities.
Responsibilities
- Design HVAC and mechanical building systems for commercial and institutional projects
- Perform engineering calculations, load analyses, and equipment selections
- Prepare construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
- Serve as the Engineer of Record, providing technical oversight throughout the design process
- Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and other engineering disciplines
- Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and other construction-phase documentation
- Conduct field investigations, site visits, and construction observations as needed
- Resolve design and constructability challenges by developing practical engineering solutions
- Support commissioning, inspections, punch-list activities, and project closeout
- Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, industry standards, and client requirements
- Maintain a high level of technical quality throughout all phases of project delivery
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience; 10+ years preferred
- Strong experience designing HVAC and MEP systems for commercial buildings
- Experience with healthcare, municipal, institutional, veterinary, or similarly complex facilities preferred
- Proficiency with engineering calculations, HVAC load analysis, equipment selection, and construction documentation
- Strong knowledge of applicable mechanical codes and industry standards
- Ability to independently develop, review, and stamp engineering designs
- Excellent technical, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary design teams
- Hands-on mechanical design experience is required
- Candidates whose background is primarily project management without significant design responsibilities will not be considered
