Job Title: Senior Consultant Instrumentation Engineer (Defense / Flight Test)
Location: Yuma, AZ (100% Onsite)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation Engineer to support mission-critical flight test operations in a high-security defense environment. This role involves working closely with Department of Defense (DoD) stakeholders to ensure accurate data acquisition, instrumentation performance, and real-time mission support.
The ideal candidate will combine strong hands-on engineering expertise with consulting capabilities, delivering reliable solutions, maintaining data integrity, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform discovery, analysis, and configuration of instrumentation systems, including data acquisition programming and real-time data display development.
- Monitor flight test mission launch and recovery operations; identify, document, and resolve data anomalies.
- Provide hands-on support to flightline operations and assist in developing and refining operational procedures.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation hardware, data systems, and integration issues to ensure optimal system performance.
- Validate collected data for accuracy, completeness, and quality.
- Manage mission data workflows, including loading mission programs and monitoring system health in real time.
- Develop documentation, reusable templates, and best practices to support ongoing and future programs.
Required Qualifications
- Active Top Secret (TS/SCI) clearance is required, eligible for SAP access.
- Bachelor s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Aeronautical, or related field).
- Hands-on experience with instrumentation systems, data acquisition, or flight test technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with stakeholder interaction experience.
- Strong attention to detail in documentation, testing, and quality assurance.
- Ability to work onsite in a high-security environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years of relevant experience (or 6+ years with a Master s degree).
- Prior experience supporting flight test, range operations, or DoD test & evaluation programs.
- Familiarity with telemetry systems, sensor integration, and real-time monitoring tools.
- Experience developing SOPs, runbooks, and reusable engineering frameworks.
- Consulting or client-facing experience within defense or aerospace sectors.
Additional Details
- This role requires working in a secure, onsite environment supporting sensitive defense operations.
- Very limited travel may be required based on mission needs.
