Senior Director - Operations - Melbourne

Are you a senior operations leader who knows how to bring people together, lead complex operations and deliver strong business results?

DP World is looking for a strategic and results driven Senior Director of Operations s to lead our Melbourne Terminal, ensuring exceptional operational performance, safety, financial outcomes and workforce leadership in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment.

This is a key leadership role for someone who can balance the demands of a complex, high-volume operation with broader commercial objectives, while fostering strong relationships with unions and key industry stakeholders, while creating a culture where people, performance and safety go hand in hand.

Key Accountabilities –  

• Provide strategic leadership of terminal operations, ensuring safe reliable and efficient performance across all rail activities.
• Deliver sustainable operational and financial outcomes through effective performance optimisation, resource management, and cost discipline.
• Lead industrial and employee relations, maintaining constructive relationships with the relevant unions and workforce stakeholders to enable meaningful engagement and effective negotiation.
• Develop and empower leaders and teams, fostering a culture of accountability, engagement and a high-performance.
• Strengthen relationships with customers, shipping lines, port authorities, and internal stakeholders to enhance service delivery and commercial outcomes.
• Drive a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence throughout the Terminal.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience required: 

• Extensive senior leadership experience in stevedoring, logistics or a similar operational environment, ideally within large-scale, 24/7 operations.
• Demonstrated success leading large and diverse teams, developing leaders, and delivering operational results.
• Strong industrial and employee relation expertise with experience managing a highly unionised workforce and navigating complex workforce matters.
• Proven commercial and financial acumen, including accountability for P&L performance, cost management, and business growth.
• Exceptional stakeholder management with the ability to influence, negotiate and build trusted relationships across a diverse range of internal and external business partners.
• A strategic and practical, people focused leadership style with a strong commitment to safety, people, customers and continuous improvement.
