Job description

Salary up to £65,000 plus £5,000 Relocation Allowance

At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we're trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.

Academy Veterinary Clinic is seeking an experienced Large Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly, progressive team. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident vet who enjoys farm & equine work and is looking for a role that offers real variety, strong support, and flexibility in how they work.
With the main hub located in Stranraer southwest Scotland it serves as a costal hub for water sports including sailing & kayaking & is ideal for those that enjoy the great outdoors.  There is also a thriving local culture with many festivals & events throughout the year. This role offers a fantastic lifestyle alongside career progression

Practice Highlights

* RCVS-accredited mixed practice (farm, small animal, and equine)
* 10-vet team across 2 branches (Stranraer main site + Newton Stewart branch)
* Experienced clinical team including 1 certificate holder in Cattle Health & Production
* 3 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 3 Auxiliary Nurses, and 5 Receptionists
* Strong farm and small animal caseload with equine involvement
* Modern diagnostic equipment including small and large animal ultrasound, digital radiography, bull and tup fertility kit, and IDEXX suite
* Supportive environment with encouragement for certificates and further qualifications (e.g. DBR)

How You’ll Make a Difference

You’ll be joining a close-knit and collaborative team of vets, nurses, and support staff who genuinely enjoy working together and supporting one another.

We pride ourselves on offering a positive, down-to-earth working environment where clinical standards are high, but teamwork and communication are equally valued. You’ll have the autonomy to manage your own cases, with experienced colleagues always available for discussion and support

As a Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll work collaboratively with the wider practice team to deliver a high standard of patient and client care across a varied and rewarding caseload.

You’ll continue to develop your clinical skills and interests while sharing your knowledge and experience with colleagues, contributing positively to the clinical culture of the practice. You’ll be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering excellent care and supporting the ongoing development of those around you.

Key Responsibilities

This role is ideal for a vet who enjoys being out on farm and building strong, long-term client relationships. The large animal caseload includes a mix of beef, sheep, and some dairy work, alongside a significant amount of TB testing throughout the week.
For those who enjoy maintaining a mixed caseload, there is also opportunity to be involved in small animal consultations and procedures within the clinic.

We understand the importance of a work life balance & we offer a 4 day week as standard. The on-call rota is shared fairly across the mixed vets and currently consists of 1 in 7.

Our aim is to provide a rota that is both sustainable and supportive, allowing you to enjoy your work without compromising your time outside of it

You Might Be a Great Fit If...

You are a confident and motivated veterinary surgeon who enjoys working as part of a team and is committed to delivering high-quality patient and client care. You’ll bring:

* A Veterinary degree and registration (or eligibility to register) with the RCVS

* Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues
* A proactive approach to learning, with openness to feedback and development
