Database Lead Oracle to PostgreSQL Cloud Migration

Experience: 8 12 Years

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Database Lead to drive large-scale Oracle to PostgreSQL migration initiatives on cloud platforms. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in Oracle and PostgreSQL database administration, heterogeneous database migration, cloud-native database services, and migration planning with minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end Oracle to PostgreSQL migration projects in cloud environments.
  • Assess Oracle databases and design migration strategies for PostgreSQL.
  • Perform schema conversion, data migration, validation, and performance optimization.
  • Execute heterogeneous database migrations with minimal business disruption.
  • Design high availability, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions for PostgreSQL.
  • Optimize SQL queries, indexes, and database performance after migration.
  • Collaborate with application, cloud, infrastructure, and DevOps teams during migration.
  • Automate migration and database administration activities using scripting.
  • Troubleshoot complex migration and database performance issues.
  • Prepare migration documentation, runbooks, and best practices.

Required Skills

  • Strong Oracle Database Administration (11g/12c/19c).
  • Strong PostgreSQL Administration experience.
  • Hands-on experience migrating Oracle to PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform).
  • Expertise with migration tools such as:
  • AWS Database Migration Service (DMS)
  • AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT)
  • Ora2Pg
  • Oracle Data Pump
  • pgLoader
  • pg_dump / pg_restore
  • Strong SQL, PL/SQL, and PostgreSQL programming skills.
  • Performance tuning, indexing, partitioning, query optimization, and database monitoring.
  • Linux/Unix administration and Shell scripting.
  • Experience with backup, recovery, replication, and high availability solutions.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, or Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Ansible).
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, OEM, or CloudWatch.
  • Oracle and PostgreSQL certifications are an added advantage.
