Job Specification - EHS Advisor (Contract)
Job Title: Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Advisor
Location: Necton, Norfolk (Full-time, site-based)
Contract: Initial 6-month contract (part of a 9-month project)
Role Overview
The EHS Advisor will provide visible and proactive Environmental, Health & Safety leadership throughout the project life cycle, championing a zero-harm culture, environmental protection, sustainability and employee wellbeing. The role supports the Project Manager and Site Management Team by ensuring legal compliance, effective risk management and the implementation of safe systems of work during mobilisation, construction, installation, commissioning and project close-out.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide active EHS leadership across the project.
- Champion environmental performance, sustainability and workforce wellbeing.
- Support continuous improvement in EHS performance.
- Ensure Construction Phase Plan, Traffic Management Plan, Emergency Response Plan, RAMS and Permit systems are available and implemented.
- Establish project EHS documentation and filing systems.
- Set up Safety Representative arrangements and publish meeting minutes.
- Review and support Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Identify non-routine or high-risk activities requiring additional controls.
- Conduct routine and ad-hoc EHS inspections.
- Ensure fire risk assessments are completed.
- Record inspections and raise corrective actions where required.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with approved RAMS.
- Report non-conformances to Site Management.
- Ensure contractor competencies and certifications remain valid.
- Provide toolbox talks and project-specific EHS training.
- Coordinate emergency drills.
- Produce weekly EHS reports.
- Maintain project EHS records and documentation.
- Proven experience as an EHS Advisor on construction, engineering or energy projects.
- Experience reviewing RAMS and permit-to-work systems.
- Incident investigation and root cause analysis experience.
- Experience delivering inductions, toolbox talks and safety training.
- Power generation, utilities, renewable energy or major infrastructure projects.
Typical Qualifications
- NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum).
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate (desirable).
- SSTS or SSSTS qualification (desirable).
- TechIOSH, GradIOSH or CertIOSH membership (desirable).
- CSCS Card (appropriate level).
- First Aid qualification (desirable).
- Fire Marshal qualification (desirable).
- Full UK driving licence.
