DataBank is seeking a detail-driven Fiber Engineer to lead the design, documentation, and quality oversight of fiber infrastructure across its colocation portfolio. This role bridges engineering and field execution, partnering with construction managers, contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure fiber systems are designed, installed, tested, and documented to DataBank standards.
What You'll Do:
Fiber Design & Engineering
Design fiber routes, splice schematics, and conveyance systems for new builds, expansions, and customer connectivity projects
Create installation packages and design documentation using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
Evaluate infrastructure solutions against customer requirements and DataBank standards; present recommendations to stakeholders
Research design files, databases, and field records to support design, optimization, and relocation projects
Assess and track POE and conduit capacity across sites
Select manufacturers and equipment that meet technical and customer requirements
Create and issue SOWs
Spec materials and cost analysis
Construction Coordination & Quality Oversight
Serve as the fiber engineering lead during construction, coordinating scope, schedule, and deliverables with construction managers and contractors
Review submittals, RFIs, redlines, and completed work for alignment with design intent
Conduct site surveys and field walkdowns to identify deficiencies, installation errors, and constructability issues
Ensure vendors and subcontractors meet DataBank standards for installation, splicing, testing, and closeout documentation
Participate in project kickoff meetings, progress reviews, and closeouts
Create scopes, identify inconsistencies, and catch construction issues before they impact cost or schedule
Documentation & Collaboration
Maintain fiber inventory, design records, and as-builts in Carma and CAD systems
Review and approve fiber test results and closeout packages
Manage queues and route, update, and track tickets within DBoss
Support RFPs, pre-sales design requests, feasibility reviews, and customer/site survey needs
Communicate clearly with customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders throughout project delivery
Perform other duties as assigned
What You Bring
Required
4+ years of fiber engineering design experience
Experience coordinating with general contractors, construction managers, vendors, and subcontractors
Ability to read, interpret, and redline construction drawings and fiber engineering packages
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including escalation and issue documentation
Proven ability to identify and document construction deficiencies and installation issues
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a distributed team
Customer-service mindset with a professional, solutions-focused approach
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Visio, Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
Business-minded, adaptable, and comfortable in a fast-changing environment
Valid U.S. driver's license and current passport
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
Experience in colocation, telecom, or data center environments
Familiarity with data center fiber standards
BICSI RCDD or FOA certification
Experience with Carma or similar fiber management platforms
Experience reviewing OTDR testing and splice documentation
