The Opportunity: Field Service Engineer
Contract: Permanent
Location: Chesterfield
Forkway are one of the UK's leading materials handling solutions providers, employing around 100 people across three Handling Centres and a number of strategically located service centres.
As a Field Engineer you will proactively maintain a fleet of HYG and other associated product, both company and customer owned within their engineering capabilities. Maximise the operational availability for the customer of HYG and related product by investigating, understanding and eliminating failed/fault operation of those products such that the fix is as rapid and cost effective as possible while ensuring continued safe and effective operation for the foreseeable future.
The Impact you will have:
- Attend customer sites to assess the scope of required work, agree priorities with the end user, and ensure all activities are completed in line with safe working practices.
- Maintain clear communication with both the controller and the customer from the outset and throughout the job, ensuring full understanding of the work scope, timescales, and associated costs.
- Diagnose root causes of breakdowns efficiently and source the correct parts in the most cost-effective manner, utilising all available resources, including the Briggs Technical Team where required.
- Ensure all work carried out meets engineering standards and complies with Briggs/manufacturer specifications and tolerances.
- Carry out ongoing quality checks during repairs and confirm that equipment is operating safely and effectively prior to handover to the customer.
- Proactively identify any additional work required and communicate this clearly to the customer, particularly where additional costs may be incurred, while maximising revenue opportunities.
- Accurately complete all relevant job and service documentation, ensuring required signatures and supporting documents are obtained from the customer.
What will help you to excel in this role:
- A relevant technical qualification
- Previous experience in a similar role
- Strong understanding of hydraulic, mechanical and electrical principles
- The ability to work independently and remain effective under pressure
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage and prioritise workload
- A customer-focused approach with the ability to understand and respond to customer needs
