Job Description

Payrate: $50.00 - $55.00/hr.
 
Summary:
The role involves creating and executing Capacity Creation Requests (CCRs) for US domestic network transport builds, focusing on ULH and OTN Mesh networks. The ideal candidate will have extensive logical knowledge of SONET and Long-Distance transport systems and will drive key strategic business initiatives, including the deployment of new network technology.
 
Responsibilities
  • Initiate and engineer network projects based on market-level plans and capacity requirements.
  • Deliver strategic business initiatives and adopt new inventory and provisioning systems.
  • Perform planning, forecasting, and capacity monitoring of LD/ULH Transport network infrastructure.
  • Support LD transport capacity requirements for the Client's products and customers.
  • Coordinate with real estate/central office equipment for network growth and expansion support.
  • Perform wavelength rearrangements to reduce stranded network capacity.
  • Support multi-year transport capacity forecasts and network builds for capital funding requirements.
  • Coordinate with GTNOC for ad-hoc restoration during fiber cable outages.
  • Communicate network build plans and obtain stakeholder buy-in.
  • Ensure work meets all engineering, financial, planning, and operational standards.
  • Perform detailed equipment engineering for network augments.
  • Develop specifications for installation forces and manage vendor delivery.
  • Define cable requirements and order all necessary cables.
  • Develop Bill of Material and place orders for network equipment and hardware.
  • Manage and update the central Network Inventory Database.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with stakeholders for successful implementation.
  • Provide detailed diversity analysis for future customer orders and network growth.
  • Create diversification projects based on user group requirements.
  • Identify and resolve issues, eliminating performance roadblocks.
  • Perform data analysis, reports, and presentations for transport planning stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate leadership and mentor junior engineers.
  • Maintain flexibility with a full-time schedule, including on-call duties.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and project calls.
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Engineering degree.
  • 5-10 years of progressive technical experience in designing SONET and DWDM transport systems.
  • Proficiency in drawing complex system diagrams using Visio.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Competent computer skills and strong organizational abilities.
  • Ability to lead and teach others, meet deadlines, and work in dynamic settings.
 
Skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work flexibly, adapt to changing priorities, and meet customer needs.
  • Experience consolidating information from multiple tools into a single database.
  • Familiarity with systems such as ICON, CCP, BGW, MECCA, NAUTLUS, CANVAS, TCOMS, or nSAP is a plus.
 
Pay Transparency: The typical base pay for this role across the U.S. is: $50.00 - $55.00 /hour. Non-exempt positions are eligible for overtime at a rate of 1.5 times the base hourly rate for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a work week, or as required by state or local law. Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education and experience. Full-time employees are eligible to select from different benefits packages.
