Senior Project Manager (ERP/COTS)


Location: Hybrid (Remote with occasional onsite presence as needed). Candidates must be available during Central Time Zone business hours. Preference for candidates located in Wisconsin, though qualified candidates from other locations may be considered.

Position Overview


We are seeking an experienced Senior Strategic Project Manager to lead a large-scale enterprise software modernization initiative. This role will oversee the successful execution, deployment, and closeout of a complex technology upgrade designed to enhance platform stability, maintain vendor support, and reduce long-term technical debt.


The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing large software implementation, upgrade, conversion, or modernization efforts involving commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) platforms. This is a highly visible role requiring strong project leadership, vendor management, stakeholder engagement, and expertise in Waterfall project delivery methodologies.


This position will partner with business and technical teams to ensure successful delivery while minimizing operational disruption and maintaining alignment with organizational objectives.



Key Responsibilities



  • Lead all aspects of project execution from planning through implementation, transition, and project closure.

  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget tracking, risks, dependencies, issues, and milestones.

  • Coordinate activities across technical teams, business stakeholders, vendors, consultants, and third-party partners.

  • Drive accountability among project team members and external partners to ensure deliverables are completed on time and within scope.

  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, resource plans, critical path analysis, and status reporting.

  • Facilitate executive-level communication and provide transparent reporting on project health, risks, and accomplishments.

  • Identify and remove project obstacles while proactively managing escalations and competing priorities.

  • Support organizational change management efforts to ensure successful adoption of project outcomes.

  • Oversee project governance activities including stage-gate reviews, risk assessments, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Ensure smooth transition of project deliverables into ongoing operational support.



Required Qualifications



  • 5+ years of experience managing medium to large-scale technology projects.

  • Proven track record delivering complex software implementation, upgrade, migration, or conversion projects from initiation through completion.

  • Extensive experience managing cross-functional project teams and coordinating efforts across business and IT organizations.

  • Strong background in vendor, consulting partner, and system integrator management.

  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining detailed project schedules and plans.

  • Experience managing project risks, issues, dependencies, escalations, and resource constraints.

  • Strong executive communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience working within structured Waterfall Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) environments.

  • Ability to work independently while driving accountability and measurable project outcomes.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project and other project management tools.



Preferred Qualifications



  • 10+ years of technology project management experience.

  • Experience leading large-scale enterprise software modernization initiatives.

  • Experience supporting projects involving customer-facing operational systems.

  • Familiarity with enterprise application upgrades, platform modernization efforts, and technical debt reduction programs.

  • Background working closely with both technical and business stakeholders.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
