Mechanical Design Engineer

Some of the most recognisable consumer goods in UK homes start life as a rough concept and need an engineer to make them real. That is this contract. A Mechanical Design Engineer role in Cental London, paying £350 to £400 per day outside IR35, hybrid at three days on-site, working on live consumer goods new product development.

Scope of the Role

This Mechanical Design Engineer role exists to turn new product concepts into manufacturable hardware for a leading consumer goods business. As Mechanical Design Engineer you own the design from first idea through to production-ready parts.

• Own the mechanical design of new products from concept to production-ready CAD.
• Model parts, mechanisms and enclosures in SolidWorks with full tolerancing.
• Apply DFM and DFA across injection-moulded, sheet-metal and machined parts.
• Work with suppliers and the wider team to hit build milestones.
• Prototype, test and iterate at pace across live projects.

Key Skills and Experience Required

• Proven background as a Mechanical Design Engineer, Design Engineer or Mechanical Engineer in consumer products.
• Fluent in SolidWorks, from detailed part modelling to production drawings.
• Solid experience taking products through DFM into volume manufacture.
• Hands-on with injection moulding, sheet metal and mechanism design.
• Comfortable owning several projects at once and moving at pace.

You would join the new product development team at a well-known consumer goods business, working alongside industrial designers, engineers and project managers. The team takes ideas and turns them into products that ship in high volume, so the Mechanical Design Engineer here owns real design decisions and follows them through to manufacture.
