Overview

Director, Benefits Advisory

 

Artex is a global leader in alternative risk, and this role gives you the chance to help clients shape benefit strategies that support their goals. You'll work closely with clients and internal teams to review needs, spot practical solutions, and keep work moving from onboarding through implementation. This role fits self-starters, problem solvers, and relationship builders who like learning, helping others, and doing the work the right way.

 

As Director, Benefits Advisory, you'll serve as a trusted advisor to clients, helping them navigate an increasingly complex healthcare and employee benefits landscape. You'll partner with organizations to evaluate challenges, identify opportunities, and develop strategies that align benefit programs with business objectives, workforce needs, and long-term financial goals.

 

This is a highly consultative role that combines relationship management, strategic advisory, data-driven decision making, and client advocacy. You'll work closely with client leadership teams and key decision makers to provide thoughtful recommendations, facilitate meaningful discussions, and help organizations make informed decisions about their employee benefits programs.

 

The ideal candidate brings a blend of employee benefits expertise, business acumen, executive presence, and a passion for helping clients achieve better outcomes. Whether reviewing program performance, identifying savings opportunities, or guiding clients through complex benefits decisions, you'll play an important role in delivering value while building long-term, trusted partnerships.

The preferred location for this role is our Fairlawn, Ohio office in a hybrid work environment, though exceptional candidates outside the market who are willing to travel as needed will also be considered.

 


How you'll make an impact

Responsibilities

You'll manage existing client relationships and act as a trusted advisor on benefit strategy, retention, and growth.

Day to day, you'll review client data, help set savings targets, and recommend solutions that line up with what each client needs. You'll also build relationships with decision makers, support performance conversations, and work with internal teams to keep onboarding, supplier implementation, and contract review on track.

Clear communication matters here, because you'll present ideas in meetings, on calls, and online, while keeping internal systems up to date.

 

In this role, you'll also have the opportunity to:

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to large and complex employer groups on employee benefits strategy, healthcare trends, funding approaches, and long-term planning initiatives.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior decision makers, including HR leaders, finance leaders, and executive stakeholders.
  • Analyze claims, utilization, and financial data to identify opportunities, uncover trends, and support client recommendations.
  • Translate complex market and healthcare information into practical, actionable insights for clients.
  • Lead client presentations, facilitate strategic discussions, and communicate recommendations with clarity and confidence.
  • Advocate for client interests while helping organizations navigate challenging benefits and healthcare decisions.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to deliver exceptional client outcomes and support long-term client retention and growth.

 


About You

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years client service and/or claims management experience –OR– High School degree/GED with 10+ years client service and/or claims management experience
  • Must hold appropriate licensing as required
  • Be able to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Proficiency necessary in Microsoft Office applications and in using technology as a tool to maximize productivity and quality
  • Previous experience in managing client relationships essential
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of the key challenges in employee benefit plans and current health care trends
  • Excellent client relationship-building and presentation skills
  • Experience building benefit strategies and managing client relationships
  • A track record of working in a team-based environment with internal and external partners
  • Comfort reviewing client data, spotting issues, and recommending practical solutions
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive priorities

 

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience advising large employer groups on employee benefits strategy and plan performance.
  • Knowledge of self-funded healthcare plans, alternative funding arrangements, and cost management strategies.
  • Ability to present recommendations and influence decision making among senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated success translating complex data and analytics into actionable business recommendations.
  • Strong consultative mindset with a commitment to client advocacy and problem solving.
  • Experience managing multiple complex client relationships while balancing strategic advisory and relationship management responsibilities.
  • Confidence navigating challenging conversations and providing thoughtful recommendations backed by data and industry expertise.
