Project Manager Application Development & Modernization (University/Higher Ed/Research/Healthcare Domain exp)

Location: Pittsburgh, PA (Hybrid Onsite)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to support application development and modernization initiatives within a complex, enterprise-scale environment. This role requires a hands-on leader who can coordinate across technical and business stakeholders, manage requirements and delivery timelines, and proactively identify and mitigate risks. Candidates should be local to Pittsburgh and able to work a hybrid onsite schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end project management for application development and/or system modernization initiatives
• Coordinate across multiple stakeholder groups, including business sponsors, IT teams, end users, and third-party vendors
• Own requirements management gathering, documenting, and translating business needs into actionable project plans
• Track delivery progress against milestones, budget, and timeline, providing clear status reporting to both technical teams and executive stakeholders
• Identify, document, and manage risks and cross-team dependencies, escalating and mitigating issues proactively
• Support both Agile and traditional project delivery methodologies as needed
• Manage scope and change control processes, including impact assessments for change requests

Required Qualifications

• Proven project management experience in application development and/or modernization programs
• Strong stakeholder coordination and communication skills, including experience presenting to steering committees or executive audiences
• Demonstrated experience with requirements management and traceability
• Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Jira, Smartsheet, or similar)
• Experience managing risk registers and cross-functional dependencies
• Comfort operating within complex, matrixed organizations university, healthcare, research, or large enterprise environments preferred
• Must be local to Pittsburgh, PA and able to support a hybrid onsite work model

Preferred Qualifications

• PMP or equivalent project management certification
• Experience with legacy system replacement or cloud migration initiatives
• Background working within regulated, academic, or research institution settings

Work Model

Hybrid onsite candidates must reside in or near Pittsburgh, PA and be available to work onsite as required by the program.
