Senior Developer - SC Cleared

A Government organisation is recruiting a Senior Developer to join a team that protects public services and wider government from cyber threats. You'll help build and maintain tools that support monitoring, detection, and response to vulnerabilities, incidents, and cyber risks across the public sector.

You'll work alongside mid-level and junior developers, sharing your expertise while helping to shape development standards and good practice across the team.

Day to day duties:

• Building and maintaining services used across the public sector cyber security community
• Adding new commercially available or open-source data sources to support vulnerability, incident, and threat monitoring
• Designing and maintaining tools for detecting vulnerabilities and other security risks
• Building and extending tools that exchange data with other organisations' cyber security tools
• Maintaining and improving Django web applications
• Integrating new components with existing AWS infrastructure using the Python CDK
• Extending reporting tools (built on AWS QuickSight) for cyber security data analysis
• Communicating clearly with the development team, service owners, and stakeholders
• Helping establish and uphold development standards across the team

Key Skills:

• Strong expertise in Python and Python web frameworks, ideally Django
• Solid knowledge of modern development tools including Docker, Git, and GitHub
• Good working knowledge of AWS, particularly deploying containerised applications
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (ideally GitHub Actions and AWS CodeBuild/CodePipeline)
• Experience integrating, transforming, and organising data from multiple sources
• Ability to investigate application issues using AWS logs, Sentry, or similar tools
• Experience deploying infrastructure as code, ideally with the Python CDK
• Good knowledge of Linux/UNIX, including Shell Scripting and system administration
• Experience securing applications and cloud environments to industry best practice
• Experience working in and supporting an Agile team, including mentoring junior developers
• Good understanding of cyber security topics, especially secure-by-design development

You'll care about writing clean, maintainable code, with a focus on test-driven development, documentation, and building security in from the start. You will also need to engage with the team during meetings to express their opinions and not shy away from differing opinions within the team.
