IR35: Outside IR35

Clearance: SC/NPPV3 preferred, or eligible to obtain clearance

The Role:

  • We are looking for a highly experienced NEC Core Systems SME to support an initial assessment of a secure, business-critical application estate.
  • This is a specialist requirement for someone with genuine hands-on experience of NEC policing systems, who can assess the current application landscape and provide practical advice around support requirements, transition risks, dependencies and operational readiness.
  • The initial engagement will involve supporting a small number of workshops and completing an application-by-application assessment. There is then potential for the successful consultant to move into a longer-term engagement of up to six months.

Applications in Scope:

Strong experience with the following is highly desirable:

  • NEC ControlWorks - Command & Control
  • NEC DSx - Integrated Communications Control System
  • NEC UNIFI - Crime & Intelligence/Records Management System

Nice to have:

  • TotalMobile GRS - particularly knowledge of duties/rostering, interfaces and application dependencies

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide SME-level advice across the NEC application estate.
  • Assess existing application architecture, configuration, versions and interfaces.
  • Review current support arrangements and vendor support pathways.
  • Identify the artefacts, system access, licences and documentation required to successfully take applications into support.
  • Review service history, known defects and existing operational runbooks.
  • Identify critical knowledge gaps, dependencies and support assumptions.
  • Assess operational risks associated with live Command & Control, communications and RMS environments.
  • Provide independent challenge around incumbent and vendor assumptions.
  • Recommend practical actions to reduce immediate transition and operational risks.
  • Contribute to an initial 30-day support and transition plan.

Essential Experience:

  • Hands-on experience supporting, configuring or architecting NEC ControlWorks, DSx and/or UNIFI.
  • Strong understanding of NEC application architecture, configuration, interfaces and dependencies.
  • Experience within a policing, secure government or Defence environment.
  • Senior-level Application Support, Application Architecture or Solution Architecture experience.
  • Experience assessing applications prior to support/service transition.
  • Understanding of application support models, operational documentation, licensing and vendor dependencies.
  • Ability to identify operational and service risks within business-critical environments.
  • Confidence working with technical stakeholders, incumbent suppliers and software vendors.
  • Ability to quickly understand an existing environment and produce concise, practical recommendations.
