Data Engineer (Databricks) – Retail

Role Overview

We are seeking two experienced Data Engineers to support a major retail organisation's data transformation initiatives. The successful candidates will play a key role in designing, developing and optimising data solutions within a Databricks environment, enabling the business to leverage high-quality data for advanced analytics, customer insights and improved decision-making.

This role will focus on building scalable data models, integrating multiple data sources and supporting the development of customer and commercial analytics capabilities. Candidates must have strong Databricks experience and a proven background working within a retail data environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and data models using Databricks.
• Build and optimise data solutions to support customer analytics, commercial reporting and business insights.
• Integrate data from multiple sources including web, app, transactional and operational systems.
• Develop robust data models to support predictive analytics and machine learning initiatives.
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective data solutions.
• Ensure data quality, reliability and performance across data platforms.
• Troubleshoot and optimise existing data processes and workflows.
• Contribute to best practices around data engineering standards, governance and documentation.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience as a Data Engineer within a large-scale data environment.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks (essential).
• Strong experience developing data pipelines and data models.
• Experience working with large, complex datasets and multiple data sources.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with modern data platforms.
• Experience supporting analytics, customer insights or commercial data use cases.
• Proven experience working within the retail sector or a customer-focused environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable Experience

• Experience with customer data platforms, customer analytics or personalisation initiatives.
• Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS or GCP).
• Experience supporting machine learning or predictive analytics solutions.
• Experience working in agile delivery environments.

You will be a technically strong Data Engineer who can operate in a fast-paced retail environment, balancing hands-on engineering delivery with collaboration across data, analytics and business teams. You will have experience delivering data solutions that create measurable commercial value and improve customer experiences.
