AWS Security Solution and Engineering Specialist

About the Role

The role is responsible for designing and implementing platform and security controls across AWS environments, supporting both traditional and containerised applications. It focuses on delivering enterprise solutions that balance security and risk while ensuring the maintainability and supportability of the platform. Working within a DevSecOps and Agile delivery model, the role collaborates closely with application and architecture teams to support the full delivery lifecycle-from design and build through to release, operations and continuous improvement. The role contributes to the security aspects of solution design, leveraging services such as AWS Fargate, Elastic Container Service (ECS), Lambda, API Gateway, Aurora, EventBridge, Kinesis Data Streams, Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and Database Migration Service (DMS) to deliver scalable, secure and integrated solutions. The role embeds security into platform design, delivery pipelines and operational processes, providing technical leadership and assurance that solutions align with Department enterprise architecture, security frameworks and whole of government requirements.

Skills and Experience Required

Our ideal candidate is an experienced platform and security professional who can design and implement enterprise grade solutions across AWS environments. They will demonstrate:

• Proven experience designing and implementing secure cloud based platforms, supporting both traditional and containerised workloads
• Strong ability to balance security, risk, maintainability and supportability when developing platform solutions
• Experience with AWS native services, with hands on exposure to some or all of the following:
• AWS Fargate
• AWS Elastic Container Service (ECS)
• AWS Lambda
• Amazon API Gateway
• Amazon Aurora (including primary databases and read replicas)
• Amazon EventBridge
• AWS Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2)
• AWS Kinesis Data Streams
• AWS Database Migration Service (DMS)
• AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT)
• AWS Security Token Service (STS)
• Strong understanding of event driven and API led architectures and integration patterns
• Experience working within Agile and DevSecOps delivery models, contributing across the full application and platform lifecycle
• Ability to align solutions with enterprise architecture standards, security controls and governance requirements, eg PSPF, ISM and Essential Eight.
• Experience embedding security into DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code and automated controls
• Strong skills in vulnerability management, monitoring and operational security response, including incident and problem resolution
• Ability to provide technical leadership, assurance and pragmatic advice to resolve complex platform and security challenges
• A proactive approach to continuous improvement, including evaluation of technologies, tools and processes to uplift platform capability
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence secure delivery outcomes across multi disciplinary teams
• Experience implementing observability capabilities (e.g. dashboards, monitoring, and logging) to support proactive compliance monitoring, detection of unauthorised access, and retrospective investigation.
• Experience delivering structured knowledge transfer and capability uplift to teams through hands on demonstrations, on the job training, and targeted one on one mentoring or buddy arrangements.

Location and Contract Term

This role can be based in Brisbane CBD, Melbourne CBD and Wollongong. 12 month contract with 1 x 12 month contract extension options pending budget and delegate approval.
