Job Description

We are hiring a Senior Network Engineer to support, troubleshoot, automate, and modernize a large distributed retail network. The engineer will focus on store and branch LAN connectivity, new-store network deployments, and the transition toward a Fortinet-based infrastructure. Daily work will include isolating complex connectivity failures involving store devices, vendor-hosted services, LAN components, WAN paths, and adjacent security systems; performing packet captures; and using Wireshark to determine where traffic is failing. The engineer will also help standardize and automate repeatable deployment and operational tasks using Python, Ansible, APIs, or comparable tools. Linux familiarity will support packet capture, log collection, and diagnostic tooling on store servers. This role will work closely with teams responsible for the regional Equinix points of presence, backbone connectivity, data centers, firewalls, and automation while maintaining primary focus on the store-facing network environment.

Must-Haves:
  • Senior-level hands-on enterprise network engineering experience with a strong focus on LAN connectivity, switching, and operational troubleshooting.
  • Strong hands-on Fortinet experience within an enterprise network environment; experience supporting Fortinet across distributed sites is strongly preferred.
  • Advanced troubleshooting ability across LAN and WAN paths, including isolating failures involving store devices, vendor services, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, and adjacent firewall controls.
  • Strong packet-capture and Wireshark skills, with the ability to interpret traffic flows and identify the point of failure.
  • Experience supporting large distributed networks such as retail stores, branch offices, field locations, campuses, or other multisite environments.
  • Ability and willingness to relocate to Springfield, Missouri for conversion.

Nice-to-Haves:
  • Network automation experience using Python, Ansible, APIs, or similar tools, particularly for common site-deployment or Fortinet tasks. (Borderline Must-Have)
  • Experience migrating stores, branches, or other distributed locations from a legacy networking platform to Fortinet.
  • Linux command-line experience supporting packet capture, log storage, network diagnostics, or locally hosted troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience deploying and supporting networks for new stores, branches, or field locations at scale.
  • Retail networking experience, particularly in environments with hundreds or thousands of locations.
  • Working knowledge of BGP, regional points of presence, and end-to-end traffic flow through enterprise WAN and backbone environments.
  • Broader network-security or firewall experience; security expertise is additive but is not the primary focus of the role.
